there was a sitcom in which some long term spacers used some fruit flies they happenned to have as a component for another experiment and fermented them to make alcohol.. hijinks ensued etc..
always wondered how viable that would be..

again. there's nothing much out there that cares enough to look at us or that has sent anything vaguely like a signal in any noticable wavelength in any of these hypothetical signal shells from these theoretical planets. ..
also, 'space is big, really really big..'
still, quite cool and it only took six years and a bugdet of some sort..
sorry, can't help the trollage, i know they probably contribute to the planet's over all quality of life .. but i can't help but feel they're all quite good at mostly contirbuting to their own quality of life first.. ..
there's threads all over the place (afterdawn being the earliest one i remember reading) that tell the tale.. this is just LaBeeb (and el Reg by proxy) jumping on the bandwagon and recylcling the intarwebs again.
apparently announce they're cutting 400-summat journalist jobs? the average IQ of the BBc 'news' rooms should increase slightly..
I purchased one of their 1000et android tablets. checked the site, there was an upgrade to 2.2 *without flash*. And they've done nothing to improve it since. No replies to support site requests or email.
i've looked for clone firmware updates.. like the ZT180 and there's nothing either.. and i've no idea how to sort that side of things myself.. wouldn't know where to begin.
-1NPS and quite unhappy with their support. or rather the lack of it.
used to be watchable. these days it's like watching through a seive. blocky as fuuuuuck. even the sky single def channels are terrible. was watching he rugby league over the weekend and it's impossible to make out the advert hordings on the sidelines.... and all so they can force you the hd premium priced content for what used be about right.
and it's worse for old Auntie or any of the other channels.. try watching standard def Channel 5 or the BBC2 in the day-time .. truly awful quality. and not just the program content ( before you go there).
admittedly, this is through a virmin media HD box into an LG 42 inch telly.. it ought to be ok but it's just pants.
anyone thought to look at what packaging they're ordering and in what sizes? if you're that desperate to know, look peripherally and you might find the shape in the negative space.. which is what this article is about.. and it's not rocket science to partner up with a tv-panel producer and fit the front with a nice simple cap touch fascia and a tiny interface box bonded to the main display and io ports. the pcb in an apple-tv is tiny and would fit inside any tv frame.. runs ios5-and-a-bit and sychs with all your other apple devices. If i was an apple-based-lifeform i'd be craving one also.. but i'm not.
now as to price, half your imortal soul? that'll do nicely..
They sure were selling a lot of papers to a lot of people.. That would imply some complicity.. I can't believe the people purchasing the chip-rags hadn't figured there had to be some underhand shenanigans fueling the daily dirt.. nobody cared then.. I'd be surprised if the people buying them now care either.
wtf is the point. really. it's a dirt ball. it's too far away to investigate in any viable way, barring a discovery on the unobtainium type, say, a gate that you can steer remotely to within a useable distance.. we're stuck here and all this escapism is an expense we really should divert elsewhere. i can't think of a practical use for this knowledge. Park the program for fifty years and use the cash to sort out something a little closer to home.
I'm all for research spending etc.., just into things that might make this kind of thing viable when it's more of an option. we've a few things to sort out on our own planet first.
is nobody naming these people? really, loads of people get named by the papers when they commit crimes.. is there an injunction or some court ruling with regards the people allegedly involved?
Any police officer found to have taken monies for passing information or any other service which compromised their role as police officers should be publicly outed and made to pay back anything they received and then fired... especially if they had or have a job at an NI owned/controlled business. They held the public trust and betrayed it.
This is far worse than the politicians claiming for pr0n on the missus's expense account.
Time to break out the Cactus Bats methinks.
is feckin attrocious. for any and all SDchannels. blocky as fuuuuuck. like watching the Lego version of a program through a pair of tights.
i can't watch much on the 'SD' channels now without wanting to hurt small fluffy things.
i should take it as read that virmin are charging the other people using their pipe vastly higher costs for the HD throughput? or are Auntie and the rest too tight fisted to stump up for a bigger pipe for all of it?
i have a vague recollaction that it has something to do with the head end and demand in an area.. but why does that apply to pretty much everything 'sd'? primetime Stricktly in sd was an abomination.. properly unwatchable.
also, what's with virmin wanting to charge you fifty notes to enable the hd channels that are normally free to air if you have a hd stb? that's just wrong. pussbags.
as is probably apparent, i don't know enough about this kind of thing..

i got the 89 quid kindle.. it's lovely. i tested the 3 on my gf and borrowed it a couple of times as i wasn't sure on the 'reading from a screen'.. e-ink is ace as everybody knows.
the little button in the middle takes a little extra getting used to but i favour it over the keyboard one.. i rarely use the kb anyway..
beats lugging the malazan book of the falen around, my shoulder couldn't take many more of those.. and that stephenson bloke could lighten up a tad too.. not any more.. yayz.
picked on up in a shop the day it released.. after fending off the pouncing sales droid.. and had a look at it. Nice interface .. the phone is a bit plasticy for my lights, someting that size (and it feels huge.. note: i currently have an old SE 905 candybar).. should wiegh a little more and feel a lot more sturdy.. especially for the money..
ICS looked like android. nothing more/nothing less.. but then, i've not had to deal with it on a daily basis.. but it did seem better than the other versions i've seen on these phoneslabs.
i might wait for ICS on something like the SE Xp Ark - hopefully Sony don't cripple it with bloatware.. i know.. i know..
not that i disagree mind you.. but this has got to be an attempt at winning FOTW..
the early dragon books were worth the effort .. but then i grew older and wound up re-reading a couple a few years later.. i still enjoyed them. they were3 per force short books and therre's only so much you can do given the space.. but on the whole, lovely fun reads.
i alsways liked her biog '..subject to change without notice'
She'll be missed.
it's just, i heard the 'phone hacking' went on quite some time ago..before last year when it got fixed.. and without actually caring, i find myself curious about the timeline for this..
also, am i the only one to have noticed them playing havoc with wifi signals? i know they're not supposed to byut it's quit remarkable how many wifi related faults i've managed to resolve with an Eu when they switch one in proximity off.. i'm just sayin'
the dead-tree format equivalent of malware. do not penetrate their paywall and you will mostly be safe.
as for the news international links and the exec's prior knowledge of the paper's activities.. good luck with prosecuting anyone involved, be it NI or the Plod.. they live behind a different kind of paywall.
want to charge 50 quid to 'turn on' the HD service.. which is being transmitted by BBC for free under a public broadcast license doojit..
and the SD quality is unnutterably shite ('scuse french- it actually makes me want to swear)
not that they care.. i only spend 450 quid a year with them..
would be why it's not available on this side of the pond.. SLY have trained us pavlovian-style into paying 60 quid a month for something that is clearly not worth it to the yanks.. how much again for skymovies on its' own.. oh wait.. it's not something you can have on it's own..
Also, good article andrew.
the SI definition of a Tad: there are two sniggets to a tad. there are two widdlewats to a snigget. and about 14000 Kettles to a widdlewat, depending upon atmospheric density at the time of the Kettle. A Kettle is defined as the time between someone heading towards the Brew Machine and someone jibbing onto this and blagging a crafty one.
the FA might be angered and you mustn't anger the FA.. the Franchise Association might lose money or look bad or something.. sorry, i don't speak football. not a language i'm fluent in. can someone tell me why this is news? or is it the first time a footballer has been party to an IT related subject and being a red top, El Reg just couldn't refuse...
