Buying gov.UK kit via price-comparison digital portal could 'save £10bn'

Aitor 1

Re: I admit it.

There are beancounters that will help you.. for a price.

Anyway, it is a bad idea for small shops.. don't deal with the gov.

Eight in ten IBM Global Tech Services roles will be offshore by 2017

Aitor 1

Re: Real talk

Not only that, but they saw the very real risk of losing relevance.

If the market is tech driven, the beancounters provide no value. So, declare that the tech has no value, therefore an external company has to deal with it. They simply won.

BBC telly tax drops onto telly-free households. Cough up, iPlayer fans

Aitor 1

Re: iPlayer - accounts and international markets

They don't block all VPNs, as I can watch iPlayer while I go on vacation back to Spain.

As for charging that much for content.. really not worth it. I would then DEMAND to have the content available after it is broadcasted.. and I mean the minute it is started to broadcast, and to remain some months.

Tor users are actively discriminated against by website operators

Aitor 1

Re: Understandable..

I used to block:

Russia

China

Japan

Korea

Tor

And the hacking attacks diminisshed by more than 50%, no legitimate user was affected.

Had it been possible, I would had blocked the US and UK, and then almost all malicious attacks would have stopped.

Aitor 1

Block three

I can understand that users use adblock, as I have used it myself, and these days I just don't have flash and don't go to several websites.

But blocking ads at network level? probably illegal, but most certainly bad idea. I would block all traffic from three.

16KB are needed.

Network builders: LTE costs will transform the cell tower biz in 2016

Telcos

Most telcos know that they aren't really good at telecommunications, and they have outsourced the works on the network and most of the planning, so why not sell the network.

They are also last on customes retention and satisfaction, having also outsourced these services.

They also no longer bill their customers.

My suggestions is that they should just be a brand that resides in bahamas. And, of course, outsource marketing and the directors.

There, closed shop.

Western Digital, IBM enter patently cosy deal

Aitor 1

IBM being sold, one juicy part after the other.

And then the directors are still puzzled, how come where sell less each quarter?

If a supermarket stops selling milk as it makes them no money, people will stop buying there.. it is quite simple.

Same with IBM, yes, they will send me a unix box, or a mainframe, but now x86, pcs, and many related technologies are sold by lenovo... etc etc.

Google UK coughs up £130m back taxes. Is it enough?

Aitor 1

Re: One answer is to have a flat rate of tax across Europe

In order to kind of fix this you would have to block transfers todirectly or indirectly to tax havens. That includes ireland.

That, of course, creates a new world of problems...

Aitor 1

Re: Not just the UK - same problems in Australia

That is why you pay a few pounds/dollars/euros in taxes.

The problem is the uneven playing field, that removes income from the society that generated it and damages those who do pay. Good luck fixing it.

Aitor 1

Re: Who Knows Tax Law?

The problem is that you are proposing is a regressive tax system, and those systems tax the poor more than the rich, and the differences in class increase dramatically. Now we have something similar as the rich pay relatively almost no tax, but the middle class do pay.

Aitor 1

Re: The Tumbler SJW jibe is silly

Problem is, if no company pays any taxes in the uk, bankruptcy will come.

And we are headed to that with tax avoidance... It is one of the reasons for class inequality: the rich tend not to pay taxes at all.. ask the Scottish government...

It is not about efficiency, as in spain for example they have been pushed with different excuses.

In spain they are used to control if the house/flat is in use, and by how many persons. The sw has been available for years, but was extremely unreliable with analog readers.

Apart from the illegal control aspects, if you rent it and don't declare and pay the required taxes you will be caught.

Microsoft has great technology, but lacks vision.

Just look at windows phone... an unnecessary disgrace. And I tried hard to like windows ce.

Linux is in many ways inferior to windows and in many other ways superior, overall I would say it is inferior to windows server, unless you check the price, then the TCO is inferior, and therefore ppl should use it.

Also, there are plenty of ways of pointing out deficiencies in Java without using plain lies.

India and Brazil

It is expensive to manufacture in India: too much corruption!! Even worse than china.. and when you have to effectively pay "protection money" "pizzo" "lecgal surcharges" or whatever you want to call it, things get expensive very quickly.

As corruption in India seems to be fixed as soon as we have electric Fusion Power, I don't really think India is a serious contender for China. Maybe smaller countries that can be dominated by big corps are a better target for them.

Still, for backup, video recording, etc, I think it makes sense.

Aitor 1

Re: Woa... that's nuts...

Well, in some states, if you steal three cakes, the third time you go to prison for life (three strikes law).

Also, a reallyt big portion of those incarcerated have drug related sentences... you know, "war on drugs" that only benefits the prison owners.

In the uk, if you kill somebody while drunk you might not even go to prison, and that is absurd.
