Norway warns Amazon against Kindle launch

Thumb Up

Norway and EU

Norway is to all intents and purposes a non-voting member of the EU. We have an agreement that obliges us to enact all EU legislation, and we're usually faster at doing so than the actuall EU-members.

As for warranty, the law is a bit vague, but things in Norway have a 2 year warranty by law unless the thing is supposed to last significantly longer, in which case the warranty is 5 years. I don't remember the exact wording, but it is extremely vague. But there is precedent that mobile phones are required to have a 5 year warranty, so I assume the Kindle would be the same.

WTF?

Deathsentence for piratebay

Do these people really think you can make money from piratebay in a way that the contentowners appreciate? The brand name, the technology and the userbase are all compeletely worthless as soon as the users realize they won't get stuff for free anymore. If this report is true, piratebay will go the way of napster.

Peer-to-peer works when distributing free stuff. If you're asking for money, you'll have to provide the bandwidth. Don't know why this is so difficult to realize.

WTF?

GDP envy?

Europeans are suffering from GDP envy? That might be right for the rest of the continent, but GDP pr. captia in Norway is 10% above that of the US. I suspect the GNP envy goes the other way.
