WTF?

cat ?

Er.. so in what way is it 'like a cat' ?

I agree with loopy lou - I suppose the later to appear creatures are scaley, cold blooded, egg laying cats - some as large as buildings.

I suspect the palentologist involved is a woman. and likes cats.

@dirk

because unfortunately he is a bit of an ecsentric old mentalist.

hell, I think he is a top bloke, but his stance on, for example not selling his gyros to the public for leisure, etc just makes him look more of a fruitcase.

Look at the way skydiving came on through the 80s - it was driven by the recreation industry and adopted by the military because these sort of entrenched believes that big govs have only get erroded by over welming odds, not by one bloke shouting.

If he'd started sellings 'little nelles'in the 60s I have no doubt we'd have some amazing autogyros and gyrocopters now. Its a damn shame imho - it could probably have been developed into one of the safest and accesibly forms of flying given a bit of investiment.

As it is - I''ll continue to fly my paramotors.

p.s. "ok boys.. I want u to rig up a 3d imagining of this flying thing we want to build - now then.. spend 80% of the 3d design budget on the background... after all it's not like we have the slightest idea what it'll look like when we build it" - I mean... what the hell is that picture like.... sack yer graphic design department now u muppets.

I'm a party host!

I got mine last week. As a 'selected party host' it's the limited edition ultimate, singed my Monkey boy Balmer himself.

I can't wait till thursday where my 'friends' will be getting down to my banging party.

I have my windows 7 jigsaw and pack of cards to kick things off with a bang, and each guest even gets a windows 7 napkin (really...), and a windows 7 tote bag (which could not be louder and more hideous).

Since we are all living out a hotel with work, I'm having it at the local hotel.

I imagine once I get the included windows 7 poster and 'table piece' up I will be literally having to beat the wimin away with a hammer.

One at a time girls! - I can only show you windows 7s new aqua interface one at a time!!!

boot up time irrelevance

can someone explain to me the relevance of boot up times ? time and time again you see stuff about 'oo.. a new version of window - how quick will it boot', or 'here is a new EFI bios that can boot xp in 5 seconds'..

who give a F*ck. desktop or laptop - surely most folk make use of standby and hibernate ??? I mean, sure the odd reboot once a week maybe for updates, etc... but who the hell boots up their computer every day! I'm typing this on my MBP and I ain't rebooted that for weeks. But this is not a 'macs are great' mail, my old XP laptop was quite happy hibernating daily too.

Er... since when has the Catholic church promoted the bible!

To the Vatican it is just a 'technical document' used behind the scenes as input into Catholicism. I know lots of catholics - brought up in catholic schools, etc who have never read a page out the bible in their lives.

It's the 'proddies' that tend to be the bible bashers.

jesus that is scary. There is one thing UK uni's have going for them - if they tried to recommend only certain laptops as acceptable (with the large bungs they no doubt get from the corporations) they would get ripped to bits. That is downright pathetic.

I have 6 netbooks - they do tasks from being HD media centres, to being my holiday osx machine for editing videos and pictures. The hyperthreaded 1.6gz atom is fast enough to do all this no bother at all.

Burqa ok ?

Having just came back from Egypt where it is normal to see women in the pool with a head to foot Burqa on, I'd be interested to know if this is acceptable clothing for the pool (which they also could have had on for weeks).

My bet: yes (if it is 'your religion' then u pretty much get away with anything).

As a pastafarian, I have started a motion with the Church of the Spagetti Monster to outlaw the wearing of anything but mankinis.... once that passes I'll be interested in what Alton Towers has to say about repressing my religious freedom....

Anyhoo they are missing a trick here.. .if I owned the park, they'd be a maximum BMI allowed for bikinis or speedos, and under a certain BMI, women would be required to wear g-strings. topless bathing would be encouraged too. Hell when I was a kid on holiday, that was about the only reason I went into the pool (too see wimins bits bobbling around wing my goggles on...)

eh ? what the hell would be the point for missiles ?

most missiles I'm aware of are a strictly 'use once and destroy' variety.. not known for having to be refueled...

and rocket engines work pretty damned well for that. what the hell would be the point of a scramjet missile exactly ? a massively more complex technology to be:

1) slower

2) less reliable

You are missing the POINT !

The man has knowledge of alien technology FFS!

It was probably the shock of that technology that gave him aspergers!

It could fall into the wrong hands unless he is taken over to the USA to be reprogrammed in Area 51 and/or work for the NSA.

It is only the UK graviton force field that is stopping the aliens abducting him now from UK soil.

The sooner we hand him back to appease the aliens the better imho.

Hackintosher aims 'blazin' guns' at Apple

kicking off

I see all hackintosh and osx86 stuff has disappeared from ebay now. Even folk just selling hackintosh logos and stuff.

Apple must have forseen this coming when they moved to open x86 hardware.

To have a RETAIL OS that you sell that runs on open x86 hardware, and then try to tell folk they must run it on an apple is no different from say Sony saying you should only use SONY CDs in your Sony CD player, or Ford saying you must only use ford oil in a ford car.

It ain't gonna fly.

If pystar have got wee Bill G behind them with his wallet open it could be an interested decimation of apple....Or more likely they will engineer osx back to require non open hardware, and we'll all lose out :-/

Pssst... Apple tablet on way, whisper Chinese moles

weird

When netbooks came out folk thought they would be used for just surfing the net - so we had basic powered things (via C7, etc) and linux OSes, etc.

But folk didn't want that. They just wanted a wee computer to do all the stuff they do on their computer.

So we beefed the screens up, and the processor up to the atom.

Now they sell like hot cakes ? Why ? Well, like me, I reckon a lot of folk like doing normal computer stuff on it with their regular OS (i.e. XP for most folk). So I use mine to edit my photos and videos on holiday, watch videos on the plane, even playing 720p stuff (good old coreavc).

It turned out that the key to people buying netbooks in their millions was:

1) cheapness (I also have a sony picturebook and a UX180... both were arguably better than netbooks, but cost 2K each and were not big sellers... but the picture book was from 2000! netbooks are nothing new - only the price is new!)

2) versatility to do everything you normally do on your PC, not just a browser (and the failure of linux on mainstream netbooks shows this too).

Apple, will be ignoring this and jumping back 5 years to the 'internet tablet' era of nokia, pocketsurfer, etc al... personally I'd don't get it... I mean IF it runs real OSX (i.e. I can run regular universal apps on it... not the OSXlite of the iphone) then fine... but if user can't run their iLife apps and iWorks, etc.... have we just gone back 5 years ???

Personally I'll stick with me hackbook.

I agree with Dr Dick above.

I've always preferred cheaper wintel hardware, but finally took the plunge and got the unibody 17@ MBP a few weeks back (just after the upgrade).. speced up to 7200 HD & 3.06GHz processor.

Sure, it was expensive, but no more than other 'cool' laptops I've owned like sony picturebooks, sony UX series, etc.

It really does feel solid. The screen (matte thank you very much) is awesome. battery lasts for ages, and it just screams through video editing HD, etc. Even PC games play massively fast in vmware, negating the need to use bootcamp anymore.

I'm mid 30s. Look mid 20s (maybe its being single ages you less). I earn approx 90K a year. I am reasonably attractive looking, swimmers build. I have fast cars, nice motorbike.. I sky dive, scuba dive, fly my own aircraft.

All in all, I'd have thought I was a decent catch.

However most women seem to think I am either gay, or 'need to cheer up' (I just naturally look bored)

motion blur

yer first shot on the 3g shown motion blur at the top. As far as I can see this is the only real difference between 3g and 3g3... and causes by motion, not the software.

I agree with Sarah, the pre looks terrible - massively over sharpened and far to high contrast - its just stripped the detail right out. However, for most folk viewing the pics on the phone + resizing for web, etc they will probably look better for it to the average joe.

Jake mate: you remind me of hifi shop salesman from the 80s - anything other than a 10k system 'is shit'.. I'm a firm believer that you should buy only what you need and can tell the difference with personally, etc (e.g. for me 192Kb mp3 sounds like 256kb mp3).... I spend more on things I care about more (my macbook pro, my M roadster) and less about things I care about less (my 2nd hand lumix FZ30, my washing machine)... however my washing machine washes clothes just fine, and my lumix takes as good enough pictures to make my limited skill the limiting factor rather than the camera...
