There are so many opinions about renewable energy that it is no surprise that many people have doubts about the viability of Electricity as a replacement for Petrol/Diesel etc.
Some of the frankly crazy points made here don't help either cause.
However, the sign of the times/the way things are going is for the front cover of the current edition of the "Top Gear" magazine is all about Electric Cars specifically, Jaguar I-Pace vs Tesla Model 3 and also going from London to Lands End on a single charge.
Why? David and Co are realists. They have a realistic assumption of how what they do in Brussels will look on the first page of the Sun and that is ALL they care about.

Our negociators are clearly not up to the task of getting us a good deal. They are starting from a position of real weakness. The longer this farce goes on, the more likely IMHO we will simply opt for a Hard Exit and suffer the consequences for 3 or 4 decades.
1) All that snail mail spam I get from Virgin Media? There seems no way in hell to get it to stop. As a result, I will never, ever in a million years sign up to your service.
2) All the fake calls I get purporting to from BT with a 'nice' woman called Susan (other names are available) with a heave Indian accent wanting to talk to me about my Broadband. Todays call apparently came from a Basildon(01268) number that does not exist. (I don't use BT)
3) All the calls purporting to come from 'The Technical Department at Windows' from someone called Peter (other names and genders are available) wanting to sort out the virus/malware/slow running of my Windows system. (I don't use windows)
Come on ICO/OFCOM, get of your fat backsides and stop that. Far more of us get bothered by these than a few calls from BT.

Given all the legal problems that QC is having which is hitting their bottom line, I wonder if the QC 'C Level' Execs see MS as their way to that retirement payoff?
If MS want to take this into the mainstream with things like their Surface Product line where they will have total control over everything that runs on the kit, then a control-freak company like MS may well have to consider buying QC.
Will MS want to take over a company such as QC which seems on the face of it to be a bit of a pariah at the moment. We don't know all the details but it sure seems that way on the surface.
It is nice to see a different CPU architecture appear every so often. Without the backing of MS it stands no chance of getting into the mainstream. Look what happened to the last one? WLIW didn't make a heck of a lot of difference in the long term.
Only time will tell.

Other sites are reporting that it was Apple that wanted the USSC to take on the case to reverse a decison against them that was made by the US Ninth Circuit.
The suit was filed in 2010 and was done because the plaintifs objected to Apple's 30% cut for running a store and that Apple at that time was a monopoly. Back then, they were a bit player in the mobile market so it seems a bit far fetched to say that they are a monopoly. But hey, Lawyers are in the game to make as much dosh for themselves as possible.
I'd like to see the markups other software stores take. My guess is that it is a lot more than 30%.
It will be interesting to see if the Google Play store is 'hauled' up if Apple lose after all Android is the dominant platform these days.

Microsoft really need to stop this forced update malarkey. We, by that I mean us mere mortals of the userbase will update when we are good and ready not when you dictate.
Countless hours have been spent sitting idle while our Windows systems update just then we are about to do something important such as presenting a Radio Show or giving a pitch for a £100M contract.

That is all well and good in a perfect world. Sadly, I've seen industrial control kit controlled by a PC running Windows 'Home' Version (not even Pro) and said kit would stop working if you :-
1) Upgraded it to 'Pro'.
2) Applied any patches unless the manufacturer also updated their application for which they charged you a kings ransom.
Needless to say, the PHB that signed off on the purchase was long gone before this all came to light.
The good thing is that both companies went out of business 4+ years ago but I suspect that the way that the supplier went about its business is not that uncommon.

For us mere plebs/mortals/ordinary people, MS could not give a F***. In many cases I think that they'd rather we went away and didn't bother them again. Well, IMHO, Windows 10 from a consumer POV seems hell bent of driving users to other platforms so... you make your own mind up.
Yet again last month, I had to tell a family member "I don't do Windows 10" when asked for help because MS in their 'wisdom' (sic) had screwed up their computer with an update. sigh.

I'd thought that we were past the day when we had apps like Twitter and Facebork that could not removed. If the EU stops this practice then it can't come a day too soon for me.
Don't blame Apple for most of those missing apps.
You need to point the finger at the likes of Facebook etc who have decided that 'wearables' are a thing of the past and therefore not worth bothering with.
However there is a niche market for wearables and Apple seem to have gotten most of it.
Where this market goes next is anyones guess.

The word that pops into my mind when thinking about 'autopilots' and self-driving and even adaptive cruise control is 'Numbskulls'. Because trusting their lives to some thing that has had no quality audit (like wot aircraft auto-pilots get) is just madness.

I ran a company that closed down in 1998. I still get emails from all sorts of companies wanting to do business with the long extinct company.
