As you note :-

IMHO, quite apart from falling foul of the correlation equals causation fallacy, the researchers obviously have little to no understanding of physics and RF engineering. I would contend that: the majority of radio frequencies are somewhat considerably higher in wavelength than 800 Hz, at least those that anyone would be exposed to in any significant proportion in daily life. e.g GSM cellular networks at 900 MHz, PCN at 1.8 GHz, terrestrial TV at around 500 MHz and Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz.

I used to be a BCS member, through my employer who stipulated all staff had to be members (at least they paid for the memberships!!) the second it came to paying myself I bailed...

I've never seen the point of the organisation, sure I can understand how it seemed like a good idea to follow every other engineering speciality and have a society, responsible for dishing out chartered status to the worthy..

...but absolutely pointless if staffed by marketing f**ktards, capable of creating drivel like this and absolutely invisible as far as employers or the market for knowledgeable geeks is concerned..some could say 'quango' ??!!

Had the pleasure of being shown round Portland Coastguard station not so long ago....

1) Look at what they can achieve and cover and how many stations they have (about 18 I think)

2) With respect to systems, they have a pretty good system integrating GPS, VHF, RADAR, hydrograpic charts, OS data, telephony etc. etc. you don't need to reinvent the wheel surely, just bung in what your missing.

My guess the problem is the usual...not enough people who actually know what the fuck to do and more people 'managing' and 'selling'.
