But isn't the point that if they have the encryption keys - they potentially dont need to apply for a warrant in the UK. Is there any oversight thats checking that haven't abused these keys on British nationals, or are we just meant to take their word for it? I take your point they may be fractionally more circumscribed than the NSA, but their previous form leaves me very doubtful.

Also presumably they dont have controls over where the sim cards end up so have to do some sort of polling/monitoring of Networks to determine who has what key - i.e. yet more indiscriminate data collection.

That they priced HANA out of the market - it's a compelling product but usually priced eye wateringly even by oracles standards. SAP may have captive market in ERP (gawd knows why) who pay through the nose but they have never really tried to outcompete MD and Oracle in the database space. I Think they aspired to be another Teradata when there's only room for one.

The problem with voting for UKIP is that the average politician is too thick to distinguish between a vote for UKIP as a protest against the mainstream parties policies versus a vote endorsing UKIP's policies.

Net result -> Tories lurch right to UKIP lite. Labour lurch even more authoritarian/nanny statist, whilst pretending to be lefty.

I'm probably going to vote LibDem - on the off chance they get the balance of power - generally they will act as a moderating influence on the big 2, but not carry enough weight to implement their more loony policies. Filter out the policies that appear to their core voters and they are actually surprisingly sane. For political values of sane obviously.....

Where does Aldi and Lidl's ability to discount further than the big guys come from? Some of it is obviously store location, store fittings, and minimal headcount, but where does the rest come from?

But you have to take that one step further Andrew, and actually look at of those who valued their data at 140 quid - how many actually took their search/email etc business away from Google. And that's without getting into the fact that that 140 was the total for all data and all its uses.

If they didn't move away from Google - all it confirms is that they value Googles services to the tune of £140. all you have done is confirmed Tims point but disputed the actual "fer instance" value he chose.

Now Im hoping that increasing valuation of data is an indicator that the Tech giants are going to get a shock - but the realist in me suspects its going to be over a very long timescale.

And as for Market Destruction - I don't think you should conflate the services Google provides to earn its revenues with what it does with those revenues.
