Won't follow Apple Store rules? How 'bout an iTASER TREAT!

Kit-Fox

You know i'm shocked that more people arent concern with the fact that police officers are working security at pirvate companies& that police authorities are getting paid to let their officers do this.

Does this not reducxe the number of police available on patrol & for attending other crimes?

Cannot apple afford to employ their own 'mall security guards' for their shops?

If I was US voter I'd be demanding answers about why publically paid for police officers are getting sold out to the highest private company bidder and been taken away from their purpose of protecting all the public & society, not just those that use apple (or other private company) stores

Re: In the UK ...

.. you don't need a deed poll to change even your surname.

Well you do if you want it to have any legal standing & to be used in reference to your legal entity.

Without a deed poll notice clearly & legally marking out the change the state can simply continue to use whatever name is on your birth certificate & there is nothing you can do about it

Kit-Fox
Go

Thankfully you can change your christian names at will with no need for a deed poll or any legal framework at all. So just think of a name you want to use and start using it

That is of course how it stood the last time I checked, as deed poll explictly stated it was only needed to change a surname. It would not surprise me to learn this has changed in our 'identity' obsessed 'security' theatre of a world :( :(

FAIL

Re: You what?

Members of the US armed forces who deal with classified or sensitive information already know not to pass it on to anyone who is not already authorised to recieve said information as they all sign a nice lil non disclosure agreement when they agree to handle such data.

All this declaration does is formalise the fact that you will be considered to have in essence given aid & comfort to the enemy

Its not really a fail, as you'd be communicating with the seller not RM.

Your contract would be with the seller, who would no doubt put RM's ass in a sling upon finding out you didnt get your parcel.

Remember RM want the business retailers provide, so I doubt Amazon, Ebuyer etc et all have to wait 15 (or 30) days before objecting like the rest of us do.

China does still offically have a one child policy in effect. The difference is that now it is not so rigourously policed & enforced.

The chinese state prefering to fine those who have more than one child instead of castration. But it is still in effect & they do still pursue people over having more than one child.

Re: LOIC?

I see no reason why either possessing LOIC or using it against a target you either own or have permission to stress is against the law.

In fact it would be a rather depressing & dire state of affairs if that were true, as it would make other penetration & stress testing tools illegal too, many of which are used for a variety of legal purposes.

Shameful, not one mention of Upgrading & Repairing PCs by anyone!

I cannot believe on this site of 'IT pros' than no one has mentioned that 'Upgrading & Repairing PCs' by Scott Mueller is the bible to swear by.

Much better than a waste of space by haynes that will no doubt tell you to take it to a qualified sevice technician for something as 'difficult' as partitioning a hard drive.

Re: seems a fair price

If you were not challenged by the courses you took then does that not tell you that perhaps you chose the wrong ones ?

And schools do not need more IT at all stages, just because technology exists does not mean it *must* be used. We would do better as a nation to spend more money on what are considered the 'basics' of education such as English (Language & Literature) / Maths & the 3 primary sciences of Biology, Chemistry & Physics.

Improving the teaching and retention of that teaching would reap us many more benefits that stuffing schools full of IT equipment that they really have little use for and wont be used to help education along.

Bloody wonderful, dont idiots ever think first?

Cant anyone see what this guy has done?

Why dont ID-10-T folks ever think first, all he has done is give governments a reason to regulate 3D printing.

No doubt some senator will grab onto this and use it as a 'wont you think of a kids' thing to pass restrictive legislation against homebrew £D printers like the RepRap, which they will they try to force on the world no doubt using threats (probably such thingsa like cutting off countries who dont agree to regulation from US banking institutes etc)

Re: Lucky he's not in the UK

That doesnt tend to matter anymore in the UK, the esteemed police of UK plc seem to make the assumption that if you have possession to a device you have the necessary credentials to use those devices

So it would be assumed you know the unlock pattern and were deliberately withholding that information, ego breaking our utterly retarded laws

Kit-Fox
Mushroom I've said it before & I'll say it again, we need better teaching of subjects like English, Mathematics & Biology, Chemistry & Physics (the three sciences) much more than we need CompSci classes in schools. Let those who wish to do computers explore it in 'addon' classes during a lunch break or after school or on thier own at primary/high school level. Keep it to the colleges & universities who are much better prepared to be able to teach it in a meaningful manner.

Typical Politician Claptrap

Nothing to see here folks, normal service is resuming at the House of Commons, once again people who have no idea what on earth they are talking about are trying to get something canned simply because they have a personal problem with it.

Are these really the type of people we want running our county?

It never stops, first it was any music that wasnt classical, then the silver screen, then music came around again in the3 form of blues/jazz/rap etc and lets not forget how skateboards were all some sort of commie plot in the 70s/80s and of course now we have music. videos & computer games taking the blame.

You know just once I'd like these politicians to get confronted after saying stupid things like 'video games make you violent' with the peer reviewed evidence that shows there is no evidence whatsoever to show that playing violent video games can actually turn you into a violent person or increase a persons level of violence.

Apple in 873-page legal claim to word 'Pod'

Prior Art anyone???

As I recall from my days play the battletech games, that there was a 'pod' in use at various VR locations across the world that you could sit in and gave you the immersed feeling of actually being inside the cockpit of a mech.

I recall they used the word pod in their name, perhaps the company that made them could remind apple that they werent the first to use the word pod in their products in the technology world & as such have no rights to stop anyone else from using it.

Or is that just too much common sense to expect from the legal profession??

Lack of training!

It shows a lack of training on the part of the police or an unwillingness to use said training. Am I seriously supposed to believe that 3 officers all of whom should have had some sort of 'CQB' training that should include how to use a baton effectively, how to bring down a person of any size (yes its that easy, even a 4ft nothing can bring down a 6ft 15stone monolith, with the right knowledge) and how to restrain them afterwards with minimal hurt or bodily harm to both parties.

Either they werent paying attention or they dont want to risk injury, either way they have demonstrated that they do not belong in any police force.

And all police officers should be made aware that when they take on the job they are signing up to be shot at / knifed / kicked / bit/ spat at / punched & even killed in the line of duty. If they arent up to accepting that risk and all that it means then they shouldnt try to do the job

Chronically ill people 'happier if they abandon hope', say docs

@ AC 14:48

Actually I am chronically ill with little hope of recovery and ever getting anything like a 'normal' life, it'd be nice to walk to shops without a walking stick, it'd be nice not to have to be so drugged up that i cant work.

It'd be nice not to have arthritis rampaging through my spine and it'd be nice not to have one of my hips slowly destroying itself.

It'd be nice if all this could have waited till i was in my 50s at least rather than in my mid 20s, lots of things would be nice in fact, how about you not making such a stupid assumption

It'd also be nice for the docs that cocked up to admit it, and pull thier fingers out rather than withholding treatment. it'd be nice if they'd done something when i was younger to prevent all this (which was possible)

So next time, crawl back into what ever lil bottle you crawled out of before you decide that just cause you have it hard, none of the rest of us do.
