Nice twist incoming!!!

From BBC news @ 08.33 gmt

The BBC's director of news and her deputy have "stepped aside", the BBC understands.

The move by Helen Boaden and Steve Mitchell comes after director general George Entwistle quit on Saturday.

Could we have a new, more 'open' news boss please?!

Re: Have used...

I'd suggest you refine your quote search technique!

Just checked quinn direct out and they wanted to charge me £1022 for the year!!!

I currently pay for the same vehicle £240 per year, with £25 cashback already paid, so £215.

And I could have got it for less than £194 if I went for a lesser insurer that others report problems with claiming.

Nice write-up, but a million miles out for me personally.

Or cheaper if you don't mind a credit search...

...by hopping over to Very.co.uk (via quidco obviously!), then if you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks (went out of stock after knowledge of the deal went wider) it can be yours for a nats under £73 fine english pounds.

Quidco for 6% cashback for a new account (2% for existing), then you'll need a code for the £30 account credit, which you can get by checking various voucher sites.

The quidco is in addition to, not included in the £73 price, so that's extra bunce if you use it.

I'm not doing all the legwork for you!!

O2 leaves travellers in the lurch

@ pctechxp

I'm fairly confident that most of the posters here are in IT, and thus they know the importance of a resilient network architecture!

I left the IT game a few years ago but still spend time here because "you never know...", but your comment really shows a lack of understanding of the service that o2 should be providing.

Any comms company "should" be using a highly resilient, fault tolerant network - redundancy and high availability is expensive but necessary, a single point of failure, which is what appears to have happened here, is a no no and is evidence of piss poor network planning.

The sort of systems that o2 should be running would be nebs certified - not your everyday kit and certainly not cheap, so no they shouldn't "break" from time to time.

Due to the failures over the past week, they will be losing a tranche of customers, but that's for the future - the immediate loss of revenue and one way billing that will now happen (bills to o2 from other networks for terminating calls etc) will hit o2 hard.

I guess that failures may be a regular occurance at your place but for a comms company, this really should be sacking grounds.

3 and conservatories...

Bless 'em, I'd had enough of 3 last year and also asked to take both mine and the boss's off contract and onto payg - guess what? They cancelled both lines instead the useless gets.

Plus we'd get these beauties week in, week out:

"Hello, we're calling on behalf of 3 and we notice you're due an upgrade soon!"

Really, can I have such and such a phone then?

"Of course, but that will mean starting a new contract"

That's ok

"Great, can we get some details?"

Aye, fire away....useless detail gathering exercise...

"What number can you be reached on?"

Der...you rang me?!!!

Aye, fire away....useless detail gathering exercise...

Oh, will you settle up the existing contract?

"Of course"

Great, so that's 17 months and 3 weeks you'll sort for me then?

....bbrrrrr

On the conservatory front, we used to get hassled loads, which always amazed me as the boss insisted we had ex-directory telephone line (this is pre-mobile).

We went through a 6 week patch where we had 4 reps come round after we expressed an interest in their cold calling.

Only one got really upset when he arrived to find we were a first floor maisonette?
