Depends what we end up calling a tablet
Once Win 8 hits the shelves OEMs will build touch into their laptops and desktops (some do already). I think that this will drive Win-8 installation on sub-notebook size touch enabled computers either with or without keyboard. That's pretty much the definition of a tablet now. What about a touch enabled 22" machine with no keyboard? Or 40"? Is that a tablet too? I think it may be.
So if I have this thing on my desk (at home or at work) and it does what I want it to do, and I am very familiar with it, then why would I want someone else's way of doing the same thing at home or on the bus or on a 'plane?
Microsoft's desktop domination my just be the shoe in needed to gt them right into the tablet market. Look what happened with netbooks...

UK too soon
We'll have something similar soon in the UK. The gov't is forcing us to insure all cars that are not declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notice). You may have a classic you only use in the Summer but under the new regulations you'll have to keep it insured even when its in your garage for 6 months.

Googlola's closed source Android temptation
Interesting article
Just a thought. If Android became so tightly integrated with Motorola that it became effectively a closed platform, do you think that the HTCs and Samsungs etc would create more WP7 (WP8?) devices? Considering that WebOS has just been er... suspended and Android has question marks about the Google takeover of Moto and the possibility of being terminated by Oracle, Microsoft could end up as the real winner in this as the only viable alternative to iOS.
Another alternative could do quite well.

Until battery cars become as flexible as fossil fueled ones they will remain a niche product.
1. it only does 55 miles flat out.
2. it takes 7 hours to recharge. Even the quick charge is 4.5 hours
3. 380v three phase does not currently exist as a distributed voltage in the UK
(UK mains is 415v three phase. However because of the risk associated with this high voltage you only get a single phase to your house giving you the 240v we all know and love)
Why spend silly money installing infrastructure for battery cars when the same silly money could be spent on infrastructure for hydrogen fuel cell cars. Hydrogen fuel cell also has zero emissions at point of use because it is electric. The difference is that you fill up and go (for about 250 miles) then just fill up again. Sound familiar?

Who are the biggest electric car liars - the BBC, or Tesla Motors?
FCX Clarity anyone?
"So the only option for long distance and electric comuting is the Plug-in-Hybrid, but where can I buy one? - Oh I can't. (both the Prius and Ampera due for 2012)"
No. Hydrogen fuel cell cars like the FCX Clarity are EVs that you can just fill up when they run out of juice.
