@ Other Tom RE: petrol down the drain.

No, you give it a go, fags will not light petrol, only a naked flame, or substance sufficiently over pertrol vapour flash temperature will ignite. all you'd have is a nice jet of flame coming from the grate, as the liquid body of petrol will never catch.

Apple's Time Capsule: is its HDD really 'server grade'?

Tom

Ahhh, the trusty old deathstar

I'm pretty sure apple have just gone to an office liquidation sale and bagged all the old desktops, i'm pretty sure every company owned machine since 1995 had one of these, or a quatum at the very least.

Anyway, i've had two deathstars over my life time, and both at some point decided to self destruct (in different machines at ver diffrent times) server grade my puckered sphincer!

My daft ex

On a drive to Birmingham a few years back, we all marvelled at the spiining farms on the banks of the motorway. Said ex comments... "wow, look at those, but why do they need them here?" Upon realising the woman was going to gaff pretty badly, I said "why do you ask, it's perfectly breezy here", she replys, "well, I can understand why they have them in places like spain, keeping the villages cool, but it's fucking freezing here already"

This from the same woman who asked me how construction cranes travell under road bridges...

I don't think I have to give a reason as to why we are no longer courting.

@ Steve,

You show me a riser kit with the bus spec required, there'd be nothing that could stop the overflow from bottle neck produced, save a stupidly humungous L2 cache, but then you'd still be waiting for that to clear.

This of course, is because the machines failed to assimilate the worlds RAM stores with coppies of Vista, Lizard men cannot tollerate failure of world domination, and are now running the ship.

Sheffield

I live on a hill side in sheffield, and the bang woke both me and the missis up, bolt upright in our bed, the cat was shitting itself and dissapered for the rest of the night, all the birds outside started twittering and screeching and when the quake hit, the was a tremendous rattle, we were physically moved in our beds, the light fitting was rattling and you could hear the pots in the cupboards downstairs hitting off each other!

That scared the pants off me, i've been in bigger earthquakes, quite a big one on LA some years back, but this one was so out of character for the uk.

You just kinda assume that big title movies are going to be on, and if you live near a whomping 30 screener, it's a safe bet you'll have a one starting within 30 mins of arrival. But seen as assumption is the main root of most major misconceptions (edited for daytime use), i guess the point is moot.

Another thing

To all those that think that any abreviation of a phrase/title into the first letter from each word is called an acronym, it's not, Laser is a perect acronym because it forms anothr legible word, if it doesn't, it's called an initialism.

I'm only saying this because more and more I have the idiots at work refering to anything not in the dictionary as an acronym, and it's really pissing me off, I HOPE YOU'RE READING THIS!

Freeview lobby cries foul on Ofcom HDTV plans

Tom

@ Kev

you're telling me that people can't tell the difference of over 300 more pixels, a third better picture? You're having a girraffe. The only time you can;t really tell is if you have a poor source and there's heavy upscalling. they all look the same then, but you wack out planet earth on Bluray on a 1080p 50'', then see it in 720p, downscalled on the same TV, it's glaringly obvious. Maybe you just purchased the wrong telly and are now sour grapes.

And for the record, no-one is broadcasting in full 1080 yet, not even sky, it's all 720 upscalled. And no single provider leased equipment is displaying in 1080p yet, not even available for upscalling, and at almost double required bandwidth for a naive source for progressive, they probably never will.

By the way, don't buy a V+ box, the picture is worse than the classic SD Pace boxes!

Youn think sun have the NHS contract? What planet are you on? It seems quite clear that no-one here knows the score, the NHS contract is actually covered by several, for north/south and for different software implementations, there is no governing contractor as such, appart from the NHS. AND, the trusts and practises involved don't even have obligation to take up the proposed services anyway.

So what would you have us do? Continue using stand alone DBs and app packs for each individual trust, that were rolled out in the early 80s? Or try and conglomerate old and new systems and have the ability to share information, automate buerocratic processes ect.

It really anoys me when everyone jumps on the flame waggon without knowing a single fact other than what they've read in the daily telegraph.

Me thinks you have the original N95 and are now sour grapes. As for no camera cover, I like it, I've had many phones with open lenses, and have never scratched one yet. If you're that bothered then get a screen protector (A crystal one) and cut it down to size.

I own an N95 8GB and can quite honestly say it's the best bit of kit I've ever owned, in relation to build qualitly, support, features ect.

Unarmed?

Has anyone considered that those boats could've been packed with explosives? I'd have probably fired after the 'explode' comment, those little fast 'unarmed' boats could've sunk one of those cruisers if they had been fitted out to do so, and saying 200m is about 7/8 seconds in a boat like that, they pose a very real threat at that distance.

Add to this the behaviour in general, the object jettison ect, I can't see how anyone can seriously deffend the Iranians actions, they're lucky to be alive if you ask me.

New CEO with a new 'view from the bridge'

I'm sick of these idiots, how many CEO's has this poor fated company been through? At least 5 in the past 6 years, how can they follow a game plan when some cheesy mofo pops his two penneth in to try and show the shareholders he was worth the x ammount of millions they get paid. I used to work for Telewest in sheffield many moons ago, I know how much of a shambles it was behind the scenes then, god knows what its like now.... Xbox 360 Elite games console

Tom

Nevr in all my life!

If you include the fact you have to pay another £110 for the Xbox HD:DVD, that makes it more expensive for comparable features. Also if you include the 360's power supply into the measurements (PS3 is internal) It's larger in both size and mass. Don't forget that the PS3 is running the cell broadband engine as well, which will really shine when devolpers get used to the system. Face it XBOX, you can't polish a turd!
