IE icon too familiar for Microsoft EU settlement?

The greatest trick the devil ever played....

...was convincing the world that he doesn't exist.

Microsoft can't be allowed to do whatever they want because they can't be trusted.

Regardless, Lie did NOT make any demands that Microsoft's logo be removed. He just noted that psychologically it has a lot of weight with users.

@ Tom 106 What, are you fucking 12? by the way google this: opera ms bork

@ DD1238 Best idea in this whole thread! Hmmm, I wonder how we could speed that up....

@Alan Bourke

What a bunch of fucking ass kissers! Opera are the little guys standing up for themselves against the giant, and you all feel sorry for the giant? Microsoft only got where they are today through illegal, unethical, bullying and fradulent tactics and Opera gets flogged by you for trying to undo some of the damage done by over-indulgent American monopolies regulators. And repeatedly stating that Opera is a crap browser just makes you look like fools to the people who actually use Opera and know just how fine a piece of software it is. Firefox, IE8, Safari and Chrome owe a hell of a lot to the innovation of Opera.

Opera is only pointing out the abuse MS have engaged in and continue to engage in to the detriment of their more law-abiding competitors.

Seriously how can people DEFEND MS? how can people feel sorry for these egregious bastards?

Hopefully this is a first step to the end of OEMs bundling Microsoft garbage with every new PC.

Sage = phpOrganisation

Dynamics= SugarCRM

Opera=Opera

Autocad= QCad, Archimedes 0.52.0, BRL-CAD 7.10

Photoshop= Gimp, Pixel, Krita

Linux has equivalents to most Win32 Programs, except for games. And there are tonnes of webapps out there to replace both windows and linux desktop programs. Aviary.com has some amazing stuff available for free online.

Woa Ha Ha Ha Ha !!

I'm just realizing there are people out there who actually LOVE Microsoft!! They actually DEFEND Microsoft!! That is fricking hilarious!!!! I take it all back. Microsoft are the good guys. They deserve every penny they can extract from their loyal fans.

Linux

Doesn't go far enough

This is a start at addressing the disgusting business practices of this crapware manufacturer. Microsoft's software is ubiquitous, not because it is good , but because it is pushed like heroin by a unscrupulous, malevoloent company. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously doesn't know their MS history.

THe real issue the EU should have adressed years ago is the fact that it is nigh-on impossible to buy a PC (not a netbook) from a shop that hasn't been precrippled with an MS Windows installation. Why is this allowed to continue? It is corrupt. It is stifling technological development. It is taking away European jobs. It is siphoning European money straight to Redmond. And worst of all it is a severe infingement of the rights of gadget-buying geeks everywhere.

Bloat? Bloat? I don't got no steenkin bloat

@More useless bloat...

By Anonymous Coward

Opera 9.64 5.4MB download

Firefox 3.0.11 7MB download

Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP 16.1MB

Show me the bloat!!

While I applaud and support Firefox in it's aims, to claim Firefox is well-designed compared to Opera is, well, laughable. Opera is the Ferrari of browsers.

Wheeeeeeeeeeee

That's the sound of the approaching asteroid for all you clueless dinosaurs out there. Seriously, I have rarely encountered such idiotic dismissal of a new service. All the security cassandras almost certainly haven't even bothered to investigate what Unite is and how it works. People have a problem with Opera bundling THIS and yet continue purchasing,running and supporting the gaping holes that Microsoft calls software???

Put it this way. Anyone who fails to see why Unite is a huge deal is probably on the wrong side of the future.

PS I'm sick of morons on El Reg writing off new tech because it doesn't fit their extremely idiosyncratic needs. e.g. "What good is it for you if you're on dial up?" Who fucking cares????

PPS Worms?? Botnets?? Stop your fucking whining and run linux.
