you dont have to believe in something in order to study, remember and pass the exams. know thine enemy?

Even advanced degrees are just exams. I suspect a doctorate may be harder as you would need a convincing viva voca

but

some of us have phones that can play music, or read books on, or watch films on. Even fap too with the girly pictures.

Danny 14

not really

your kindle will probably be the worst out of the lot as it will have an inverter in there. Nasty things that cause EM spikes. The GPS probably the least as GPS are typically well shielded in order to accept the GPS signal. MP3 players are the middle as they probably have inverters too - your illumibrite watch will be the worst offender of them all.

BioWare blows brains with intro cinematics for Star Wars MMO

Danny 14

it is also the content. LOTRO was just plain boring. Sure it had the mechanics spot on, the world was good, monsters were accurate but it was glued together by someone who had no idea about LOTRO. The same can be said for DDO - the world was spot on along with character progression but the dungeons were dull and uninspiring. No excuse as NVN spawned some fantastic adventures that could have been adapted (the theme of them, not the ACTUAL adventures!).

Everything Everywhere goes all over the High Street

Danny 14
Happy

not quite

it doesnt work in the same way though, there are only a small handfull of shops that support it. For most contracts you get back about £40 to £50 using quidco as normal. Otherwise you would only get at max 4.5% from a card transaction. Even if you were mad enough to walk into a mobile shop and outright purchase one you would only get up to £25 ish - and I bet you could buy one cheaper online if you wanted to do this. Coupled with the fact someone like buymobilephones.net usually have decent offers of phones on non-native networks with auto cashback (cannot abide with the send 6th, 9th,17th bill for money etc offers) usually wins my business.

Plus there is pretty much zero chance of sending your phone back from a shop, online you have distance selling which is a godsend if you buy a mifi and your 3 signal happens to be really shite in your house - send it back and get a TMobile equivalent etc etc

I suppose the plus side is you can go in and try to use one - after shirking off the salemen.

Danny 14

indeed

orange used to be quite good up here but in the past year it has declined. When it autoroams onto TMobile I have very little problems but on orange it gets quite bad.

Dont get me started on the quality of their 3g(+), when it works it rocks, easily 1mb+ connection but often it connects but sits there, disconnects when stationary etc.

Danny 14

the last thing we want are more highstreet mobile phone shops.

Apple pilfers rips off student's rejected iPhone app

Danny 14

small claims court

he's uk based so file a small claims court. It isnt that expensive to do so, he could file a small claim and ask for a cease and desist. Apple will try and bounce it up the line simply resist this with some decent research and away he goes.

Apple will no doubt try to settle with him as they wouldnt like a cease and desist.

Danny 14

not patented

copyright, not patent.

Danny 14
Go

you think so

but in the uk the civil burden is reasonable not absolute so every little helps. Student submits to apple, apple looks at app, icon, functionality and name. rejects then implements into its own iOS using same functionality, name and very similar icon.

That shows reasonable to me.

RAF Eurofighter Typhoons 'beaten by Pakistani F-16s'

Danny 14

so?

"more targets than you have missiles for"

then you will also lose dogfighting as more numbers = easier time for the dogfighters.

Danny 14

easy

you dont engage and get the hell out of dodge. the F16 wouldnt have been able to keep up.

Danny 14

not really the same thing

Thats because the sparrow missiles were shite so the ancient migs got through the missile screen. Coupled with the fact the phantoms radar was twitchy at best.

The F14 is hardly a major dog fighting machine but phoenix missiles are the mutts nutts.

F16 would be toast against a bunch of AMRAAMs

Win8: A beginner's guide to FondleWindows

Danny 14

now then!

If these beauties can be attached to a domain and have the usual GPOs applied to them then I see these being rolled out quite a bit. We would certainly purchase 1500 of them. The problem with ipads and other slabs are the lack of granular central control.

Dear Ubuntu: The netbook is toast

Danny 14

not really

I would still like to see what people actually use ipads for short of looking cools and reading books. Our company uses netbooks for our engineers. We have thousands of the things. They are small, lightweight, run for hours and have a keyboard on them. Engineers write reports, run technical manuals and can carry them around easy enough. Conventional USB sticks can be used to add more manuals - pdfs, exe updates for customers, tweaks can be perfomed on the netbooks before being copied to customers machines etc. ipads just wouldnt work, you simply cannot access files in the same way or type any sort of document on one.

netbooks arent being killed off, they were simply never "big" enough in the first place - they suit a purpose - same as an ipad.

Microsoft unveils Windows Phone 7 8

Danny 14
Go

quite clever though

The main reason we arent using tablets is lack of a decent windows tablet. We wont use linux/android/ios simply because of GPOs. You cannot lock other beasties down in the same way you can lock down a windows system.

Sure you can probably go to EACH tablet and do it individually with apps but i'll be damned if im doing that for 1500 of them. If windows 8 runs well on tablets and logs into the domain then its sold for us.
