Why are you whinning?

A US based service, that was provided by a US based company, collected American voice-to-speach data. Who cares if it can't do a UK accent?

What about Avocent?

Not sure if they are one of the companies that you looked at, but we use their serial & KVM over IP products here, and they're a life saver. They probably don't have everything you need, but since you're probably going to have to use multiple vendors anyway, it could be worth a look.

Care to explain how lighting managed to hit a rack? The type of PDU that got hit is most likely of the very large, outside sort, that takes the power from the utility provider and routes it to various points in the building. The better question is why didn't UPS and generator kick in, unless it was a lower tier of hosting that didn't include that sort of protection.
