We've got a 486 running SELTEK Voice Manager, connected to an equally stable Avaya Index Switch that's been running since 1997. It's only down time, power cuts.

Video: Dyson unveils robotic tank that hoovers while you're out
I have an "XR advanced vacuum cleaning robot" £160 from Amazon. Fair play to it, the bloody thing is fantastic. Wakes up at 6am every day, trundles around a carpeted room for 2 hours and genuinely keeps the carpets clean. The dust bucket needs emptying every other day and is normally full of Mutt hair and dust.
It may not be the most intelligent robot, but for the price I have no complaints at all.

Google adds 25 million grey building 'footprints' to Maps
Google announced a few months back that all the user contributed 3D models for Google Earth in major metropolitan would effectively be nuked and replaced with models built and textured using Aerial Photography.
It pissed of a fair amount of users who had built the models in Sketchup, especially those that made a money making business from it.

Fine so far
I've been using it for the past three weeks and will agree that it isn't a Point and Click tool.
For basic text and button based apps, weight conversion, length conversions its pretty straight forward. Start adding in IF criteria and I can see the average joe scratching their heads. I'm basing this on the general assumption of office workers understanding of Excel, anything more than colouring cells and columns in and they walk away. Mention IF statements or Vlookups and they faint.
Going from this, App inventor will scare anyone away who cant just say make me a game.
But I like it, I can see potential. And if matey boy spent half a day failing to make one app that worked, he's possibly in the wrong job.

Employers call for end to Mickey Mouse degrees
Degree or common sense
Working at the same company now for 11 years, I've seen my fair share of students waiving their degrees saying "look at me, look how clever I am!"
It's a shame that most of them have no common sense at all after doing a Mickey Mouse degree in Fruit Flies. They may well have spent the past 3 years in University, but they're pretty dim with everyday office based tasks, or throw a hissy fit when the Magic Box doesn't work as it should.
