Apple to lead fanbois 'Back to the Mac'

so there are still some left

who speak in a manner that reminds us of the good old MAC vs PC flamewars.

with all your experience, if you "suffer" windows, you're not worth your salt in IT, it's as simple as that. Even IT professionals that *never* work with windows, can use it just fine. stating the "facts" like you do sounds an awful lot like the "facts" i stated during those flamewars. i got older though. i realised there's no "better" OS, all of them have their perks and all of them have their downside. dismissing Windows makes no sense, just because you seem to be unable to properly work with it doesn't mean it's the same for everyone else.

what happened

to the right to remain silent?

are UK laws that different from Dutch laws? if i don't want to say anything to the cops, i don't, it's that simple.

"you're only making it harder for yourself"

yeah right buddy, you stick to that story and i'll stick to mine, ok?

so what's the deal here? has the UK given up on this or what?

always good to see what happens when people with no technical knowledge whatsoever pick a fight with nerds on the 'net.

Ace Combat

i tried Hawx 1 and didn't really like it. i got Ace Combat 6 soon after and was happy to see that they did get most of it right. the two games compare quite well, but obviouly UbiSoft has some work to do if they're going to get anywhere near the quality of Ace Combat.

even if apple made the best products in the world

i would still hate them.

i have no valid reason for hating apple, none whatsoever, but i hate them so incredibly much. i think this all stems from the MAC vs PC flamewars i was involved in many years ago. even if apple made the best products in the world, i still wouldn't buy any of their products.

if i had any sense, i'd judge them on their products, most of which are pretty good, but i cannot get myself to even try them.

open beta

i played Blurr in open beta and did enjoy it for a while (i guess games are more fun to play when everyone sucks equally), but got annoyed with the constant weapons following me. still waiting for a good combat racing game, will give split second a try after reading this, thanks :)

Final Fantasy XIII

final fantasy because...

Final Fantasy I was made by SquareSoft, a company on it's last legs and about to go into administration. this was to be their last game and they decided on a fantasy style role playing game.

final game.

fantasy style rpg.

1+1=?

i have recently played through it on my xbox and not knowing how it looks on the PS3, i was actually quite impressed by the visuals (coming from FF XII on the PS2). the first part of the game is indeed very tedious, i even skipped most of the movies the first 10-15 hours of playthrough (being a seasoned veteran when it comes to FF, i pretty much knew what was coming). after the first 30 hours, i was wondering if this installment could even come close to it's predecessors, i didn't enjoy it all that much, but i have to admit that it turns out to be a fantastic game. Rumors are that FF XIV is going to be PS3 only again, so i may end up getting a PS3 afterall.

not very smart.....

you SO completely missed the point.

us nerds didn't ask to be different (i happen to be a nerd, not a hacker, but the same point is valid), we where deemed different by our peers, shunned by the popular kids and left to fend for ourselves, on the net, we found people who accepted us for who we where, not what we looked like, what god we worship and not what country we where from, just our interests and personality.

we never wanted to stand out, al we ever wanted was to fit in and online, we found just that place.

if you think that's sad, then you sir, are missing out. i've made tons of friends online, many of which i cherish as much as i do my offline friends, several of which i have visited, or have visited me.

The Hacker Manifesto

by

+++The Mentor+++

Written January 8, 1986

Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"...

Damn kids. They're all alike.

But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?

I am a hacker, enter my world...

Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...

Damn underachiever. They're all alike.

I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it. "No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."

Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.

I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me... Or feels threatened by me.. Or thinks I'm a smart ass.. Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...

Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.

And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found. "This is it... this is where I belong..." I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...

Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...

You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.

This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.

oh dear, the self proclaimed global conscience is cross with our money grubbing ISP's who don't feel sorry for the music business going to hell. the argument that movie files are still too big is complete and utter crap, most people in the western world have bandwidth to spare and could download movies in a matter of minutes. no matter how much good this man does, i cannot help but be annoyed by his self-righteousness.

Top drug boffin renews criticism of cannabis policy

WTF?

cannabis long term effect

as someone who has been a hardcore smoker for 15 years who recently quit, i'm quite confident when saying that cannabis certainly isn't addictive and doesn't seem to have any long term effects. i quit a little over two months ago without any trouble and haven't had any problems since. perhaps i'm just lucky, but there's been quite a few friends of mine who have done the same and are fine as well.

Ballmer mixed on Windows 7's success

Danny 5
WTF?

can't help but feel the urge to respond to A/C as well

your comment strikes as coming from someone who is a MAC evangelist, i've been in a few MAC/PC flamewars and your flame looks remarkably similar to the ones i read back then (mind you, i'm not anti-MAC, anti-Linux or anything like that, i just like a good bout of trolling every now and then).

my personal experience as an IT professional with Microsoft products haven't always been good, but in general i think MS cranks out decent software. i love windowsXP, i manage Exchange 2003 and 2007 environments and have experience with other MS server platforms. i can't follow you when you say they only make crap, some products do suck, but in general it pretty much does what it says on the box.

frustration, or just trolling?

New web filter laws questioned by top child abuse cop

Danny 5
Thumb Down

can censoring be good?

i think we're on a two way street here, completely filtering out kiddie will push pedo's to try other things to get their satisfaction, something that may very well be even harder to find out, so what's your choice? no censor knowing that children will be molested regardless and giving the justice department better tools to combat it, or filter more knowing that children will still be molested and now the justice department has even less tools?

to pick between two evils :(

Lockheed engineer: F-22 Raptor Stealth tech is 'defective'

Danny 5
Thumb Up

it makes sense

even though there's no denying the F-22 is a superior air-dominance fighter and has no equel (except maybe for the SU-37 terminator), the times have changed and the chance of massive dogfights between fighter pilots are well behind us. nowadays the F-35 is the best choice, as it is a multi-role plane (i believe the F-35c is carrier based). the F-35 may not sport the stealth ability the F-22 has, it's still stealthy enough due to it's massive range. another point in favour of the F-35 is that it's nearly impossible to blow it out of the sky (i've read that the machine can actually keep flying even when both wings AND it's tail is shot).

Microsoft to bomb Europe with IE-free Windows 7

Danny 5

yeah right

it wont include the program persé, but obviously IE is going to be included in all of them, as long as there's windows explorer, there's IE and i simply don't believe they've managed to seperate the two. they can *hide* IE, but they cannot remove it without fundamentally altering windows.
