Oz cops in Taser fatality

PiLS

Better than guns?

"Personally, I rather face a cop with a taser then one with a gun."

I'd rather face a cop with a gun than one with a nuclear warhead.

"At least with the former I can always try and sue the police for wrongful arrest, excessive use of force or whatever."

What prevents you from doing it if the guy uses a gun? (assuming you're not in the US, where the cops can't stop at one)

Anyway in this case it seems like the use of the tazer might have been justified. If the guy was armed, completely out of control, and threatening directly the life of other persons... if not (like, if it had been possible to let him wreck a couple appliances while keeping everyone else safe, it should have been done. What's wrong with charging him for the broken furniture/windows/whatever after he'd calm down?). But again, in this case at least it sounds like there might have been a valid reason to deploy the tazer.

Waidaminit...

Sarah, how many eye(s) do you have? No offense intended, just checking... because you see, I happen to be the last male of an ancient one-eyed race and I wondered if you'd be interested in living in a castle for the rest of your life...

OK, no need to kick me in the kidneys, just hand me my polymorph coat...

Blubber-wrapped Linux kernel 2.6.30 hits the decks

A bit bloated

Nice kernel that you have here, though the numbering thing is getting silly. But hey, it's all a matter of keeping the numbers relevant for the people who actually work on it. Makes the version tracking easier.

The Linux kernel is a bit bloated for my liking though (I know, you can make it slim by compiling only what you really need, but most people don't do it, and the point is, you still have to compile it in the kernel which is in theory less flexible than the microkernel+servers as in GNU's Hurd. I"ll be switching all my machines to Hurd as soon as it's reasonnably operable, which should right about... now. Or *now*. Or /now/. Or sometime in the next 20 years. Hopefully. ;-)

"It's always handy to have an anti-virus program running no matter what platform you're using."

Yes, it handily takes away all the superfluous CPU cycles and RAM thinggies that clog the tubes inside the box. Who needs these anyway?

Also, Mike 85 have a point: Macs are better targets, as Tim 49 quite conveniently proved a couple posts up...
