Its been a few years since I've found a duty free shop that's actually cheaper than our local booze shop! Well unless its something you cant buy in the UK like those unique malt whiskies that if they had a shop you could access without a passport would be busy processing returns.
but (apart from Google Wave and looping code) I've not had any JavaScript speed problems - except when running speed tests.
Any slow JavaScript seems to be down to the cross site calls, something that can only be speeded up with noscript blocking or similar - the fastes machinein the world can seem to speed up google analytics or some crap advertising implant.
Even my own browser based code editor that I know contains lousy code works well enough on my old Duron based test machine.
Where you get another company to offer one of your staff a job so that they leave without you having to dismiss them with all their redundancy pay and other legal entitlements etc and then the other company lets you go asap?
Its like constructive dismissal for the lazy.
Wish the banks would practice it a bit with directorships... oh hang on.
MS and Adobe have combined forces to make JavaScript shite to deny competition for Flash and Silverlight. If mono scripting were to catch on MS at least would piss on their chips and chuck them in the pool or threaten legal action so everyone who cant afford to take them to court has to pay.
The whole problem for MS and Adobe with the web and html5 is they cant own it and they will pop your ball if they cant take it home with them when you start to win.
I'd love to be able to write code in a free and unencumbered CLI language but I rate the chances of that happening in my lifetime at about 0.
But back to JavaScript - do remember that a bad workmen always blames his tools - it might be shite but you can still write some great things in it.
@Rogerborg How is the extremely complicated task of getting a fish to eat outwitting? You can do the same to most land based creatures but I guess seeing it it actually happen makes it hard for you to convince yourself that the £500 pole (to save you actually walking round to the other canal bank) was good value. Oh - and the RSPCA would kick your spotty bot.
why is my Dad could work a 40 hour week, buy a house with an affordable 25 year mortgage and keep a wife at home with 3 kids who all got a decent education and got decent jobs in this country.
While his grandchildren have shit schools, both parents have to work 50 hours+ to pay off debts and fund vanishing pensions and a mortgage on a house that's dropping in value. Those same kids will get into university with two O'levels and leave with a degree no-one wants and wont be able to think about buying a house until they've paid their university loans in their mid thirties.
I had a better standard of living in the early eighties than I do now. And in real terms most of the things I need to keep me alive are about 30% less than they were then and IT products about 0.1% of the cost,
You cant blame that on just labour - they just used failed Tory economic policies on advisement from the city and it was only when the crash started did the Tories stop screaming 'they've stolen our policies'. If the Tories had been in power instead of labour there wouldn't have been the £20 left to give the bankers to slow down the crash.
We're not better off - we just stole our children's futures and pissed it up the wall.
Yup - using an angle grinder on a few pylons is going to cause no problem at all - I mean just like the internet they've invested so much in redundancy that its easy to route all the power through the other lines!
As for garnering the information required no-one can afford the high tech required to drive round the m25 and look up.
We're not doomed We're not doomed!
More like ignorant user problems. You want more partitions - make them yourself.
Cant? Then STFU and go back to windows if you don't actually want to learn about computing just type criticisms on them.
I want two partitions well I've got seven, no 43 all on the same drive so when the hard drive crashed my /home partition is,,,,,, GAFG.
then how can anyone prove that is not an encrypted file?
Or for that matter any file - what looks like a list of phone numbers could in fact be an index for a bomb making recipe that refers to pages/chapters in a certain book.
I'm sure if you keep trying to decrypt almost any file for long enough you can generate anything from child porn to, god forbid, a Steps CD.
You can only truly prove a file is encrypted if you did it yourself.
another OS and a fresh suite of applications to go through the ' who left this gaping security hole' tennis match.
At least with Android you can run it on a VM in Linux and get the 'functionality' and the security.
I'm looking forward to having a real PC in small format using the technology that's been available for quite a long while now.
API's are for allowing things to communicate easily.
Money is for slowing this process down and shrinking the information economy.
Zuckeburg makes money out of attracting 500million users to his site. He could charge for people to use that - and everyone would move somewhere else.
No one would be stupid enough to invoice you for every nut and bolt a car was made from but for some reason they think the internet should work that way. Cant make my mind up whether is greed, criminal stupidity or the desperation of ignorance.
that something that allows you to watch sound and video could not somehow be subverted so that the sound and video could be ... watched by something with a memory.
DRM just makes life difficult for everyone but doesn't actually achieve anything for anyone other than those that make a living out of selling DRM.
I think our biggest military threat comes from the industries that make so much money out of this.
I bet there aren't any top military in the UK who have not had serious contact with the people who will make a financial killing out of this.
And, like all things built to last these days there will be an accidental or deliberate design flaw that will require serious money to fix.
Like what if Iran get the bomb? Oh you mean people who think they will go straight to heaven if killed in a jihad. A trident replacement merely means their route to heaven is a nanosecond faster.
wasn't that the language used to program the Ariane 5 that blew up.due to a programming error.
It doesn't matter which language is used if its still programmed by idiots, or worse still managed by managers who claim to understand money or even worse still programmers who think their language is best!
