Motorola's bid to sink Windows, XBoxes sales snubbed

WTF?

NOT a MS fanboy, far from it, but Microsoft is in the right here. Microsoft and Motorola have been in court in the US over patent and FRAND for almost a year before Motorola decided to try to get an injunction in Germany since Germany is very patent-holder friendly and not FRAND-friendly. Essentially, Motorola tried to short-circuit the US lawsuit before it could be fully adjudicated and it would seem they didn't like their chances of winning in the US.

It would be like arguing with your neighbor over the shrubs and your neighbor then going to another country to sue you over it. What's the point of that?

Google: 'We did not follow Apple into phone market'

Apple iPhone development dates to at least late 2004...

...when I was being recruited as a Product Manager from another wireless handset manufacturer. I don't know when Android was started, but the iPhone wasn't created in a day either.

FAIL

"a higher percentage of them think that Android has a better long-term outlook than does iOS"

As I'm sure we are all aware, the "best" technology doesn't always win out in the marketplace...look at the graveyard of better technologies that died in the face of consumer choice, be it due to a herd mentality or lack of sophistication of the consumer. Witness the iPod: it became the dominant MP3 player despite being late to the market, not because it was a better technology, but because iTunes made it simple for the average idiot (read: consumer) to get music and put it on their player. Everything else before it used proprietary drivers and software and USB mass storage class drag-and-drop...organization was left up to the user and we all know what the average computer user's hard drive looks like.

Until someone comes up with a better iTunes-ish thing for their smartphone, Apple will control the mindshare of the non-enterprise smartphone consumer. As El Reg put it themselves, Android could do well with a benevolent dictator to provide continuity and simplicity across Android platforms...

Texas cop tasers gobby granny

Not so innocent grandma

If you've seen the longer version of the dashboard video, this altercation went on for over 7 minutes. The grandma was foul-mouthed and obstinate, to say the least. The cop was trying to arrest her when he got her out of the truck and she basically resisted arrest. I'm not one to favor the cops, but whether she's 72 or 27, she should have done what she was told and had her day in court.

Even more telling was the outright lie she said in her statement that she was neither abusive or disruptive...the video certainly tells a different story.
