Carrier apathy depresses Google Phone outlook

can't buy it

well of course sales are lower than they'd like - you can't buy it in many places, including Canada. And even if you get one out of the US, you won't have 3G data speed, since the only model sold is only able to get high-speed data on the T-Mobile network. Google still hasn't released a version that will run on AT&T's network, or Rogers, Telus or Bell networks.

It's like Google is deliberately trying to fail.

Boring!

This story, like the couple's name itself, is boring. Yet more evidence that Americans are the most spoiled, thinnest-skinned, people in history.

IE?

What, the employees of Google in China were using the Microsoft IE browser instead of their own Google Chrome browser? The horror, the horror!

Thumb Down

No OS

So long as you're happy to use only those functions that Samsung provides, this phone could be a good choice for you. The screen looks stellar. But note that if you want to add additional apps, you're out of luck, because there are no other providers of apps for that proprietary operating system than Samsung itself. You'll be totally at the mercy of Samsung to fix bugs, as well. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/thumb_down_32.png

The best netbook-friendly Linux distros

Good review

Your article is a good survey of the main alternatives that have ready-made netbook-specific flavours available (Slackware et al don't qualify).

As you point out, just like the Eee PC native Xandros can easily switch between Basic and Advanced, Ubuntu can easily switch between the NBR and its regular desktop, in Preferences > Switch Desktop Mode. If you don't like all apps to automatically go full-screen, just kill the 'maximus' process.

CrunchEEE looks promising, so I'll be on the lookout for their Jaunty release.

I'm dual-booting WinXP and Ubuntu Jaunty on an Eee PC 900HA, and I like having a virus-free OS for most work, falling back to WinXP only when necessary.

how to edit handle?

In the Profile, I don't see any way to edit my 'handle', only my forename and surname.
