Ads worse than begging banner?

When I think I once gave 25$ to WPF. Now, I'd rather have ads than a begging banner. Or maybe I should add it to AdBlock...

I would be too. Bugs need to be fixed at their root, not addressed in other layers.

Restrict Glass to GPS when driving

Maybe Google should make it so that only the GPS function can be active above a certain speed (i.e. no Youtube videos in Glass while driving). That would be better than those cars with Facebook access in the console....

Panasonic to take on LG with passive 3D TV

Luc Le Blanc
Thumb Up

Is there an upside?

Yes. Active 3D TV glasses are prone to losing sync, provoking eye strain and eventually a headache. Now let's hope Panasonic won't restrict its 32" screen to Europe like LG does (LG must be assuming every North American home runs a DIY movie theatre; I just want to look at my own 3D photographs in my living room.)

Isn't shooting films the only thing that gets done in the ISS? Garriott's short should be a change from watching astronauts gobble floating popcorn.

3D? Yes!

I take 3D photos in caves using a pair of Canon G11 compact cameras. I normally view them as a left-right pair with a stereoscope. A 3D screen would be most welcome! I'd be happy with the regular 3D model (I got plenty of circular polarization glasses from Avatar at Imax;) I'm afraid a glass-less 3D screen will be very expensive while offering a very narrow field of view.

Apple tightens screws on hardware hackers

Why use screws at all?

If Apple really wanted to lock their toys, they could just glue everything together. The Palm Vx was like that, and attempting to open its case with a hot knife was definitely not for the faint at heart!

Apple talks down (another) iPhone App Store critic

Luc Le Blanc
Unhappy

Hardly cool

If Apple were as cool as it poses, their AppStore would only be one of the many possible sources for iPhone software. Thus you wouldn't have to jailbreak your phone to enjoy the same freedom as with a PC or Mac.

Small Wee Jobbie wrote:

"I still can't get my head round the 'electric' car arguement. If you have to burn 'stuff' (coal, oil etc) to create electricity to fill up the cars where is the saving?"

An electric motpr has an excellent energy efficiency at varying speeds, while a gasoline engine is only (yet still less) efficient at constant speed. It is thus more efficient to burn "stuff" in a constant-speed generator to charge a battery and use that electricity to power an electric motor that will handle well the speed variations than to power the wheels directly.
