Huawei gets charged with juicy Android handset

Megaphone

Battery == consumable item

Then... buy a new battery, or ask your carrier for a replacement if you have a service plan?

Try one of the beefed-up Seidio replacements available at Amazon for around 40-50 quid. The 2700mAh in my 9700 goes a week between charges.

Incidentally, along with the unified messaging screen, which no other mobile UI seems to get right, monster battery life is the principal reason I've stuck with BlackBerry. If other manufs. can improve on the de facto standard crappy 12 hour life of smartphones generally I'd be quick to switch.

IT Angle

Probably an IT manager

it does seem to be a fixation - usually of IT managers with a half dozen braincells - that something written in C++ really really badly is intrinsically superior to something written in COBOL really really well.

Being written in Delphi doesn't seem to have dampened WinRAR or Skype or Partition Magic's success, now does it?

A bad coder is a bad coder

I see we've moved on from blaming the operating system to blaming the language in which the application was written.

Good grief.

MY PURCHASE WAS VALID

Gaming is the App Store's single biggest industry by some margin. The fact a majority of non-game purchases are spread wafer thin across the 19 remaining categories if anything helps prove my original point: all the top sellers are targeting one market and it's not productivity or education.

Also anecdotal evidence about looking at snow on web cameras proves nothing, though it may help you rationalise your purchase. I can also use an iPad to view train timetables and tide information, but like most people I've managed to go through life without that.

Best of all I still have the cost of an iPad in my bank account! How ironic that not being a sucker means I could, should I wanted, use the money to buy an iPad 2.

Leave the house more

"...used it for reading, surfing and more"

i.e. playing games.

Admit it. It's basically a chic games console. One third of all apps downloaded and almost all the top paid apps are games.

It'd be nice if owners came clean and just admitted as much, that the iPad is a great device for farting about and basically wasting time, rather than try and have us all believe it's wonderful and magical and going to revolutionise the world and everyone needs one. Because it ain't and they don't.

....what?

Perhaps because the "WinTards" you speak of are getting on with some work on their biscuit encrusted, letter-W-faded keyboards and appreciate that if anyone wants to spend three times the going rate on a posh monument to their consumerist lifestyle then that's their choice?

Windows 7: Microsoft's three missed opportunities

Die Hard With Intelligence

A few Windows XP diehards? You mean like, every business in the land?

Let's face an inconvenient truth for a moment: it's an operating system, the floor beneath all your furniture. Whether you stick with XP or spend your way to 7, your applications won't change and neither will you when you sit down to use them. Your web browser and email client will look and feel no different. Neither will Excel or Word, nor that cheating bastard version of Hearts. Same goes for pretty much everything else bar a few trinkets made deliberately off-limits to the rest of us.

While it's nice to see you taking Microsoft to task over some of the more idiotic aspects of Windows, you appear to think any of it actually matters. Like millions of users, and millions of IT departments, I'll be sticking with XP - and this despite Windows 7 looking so splendid and Microsoft doing so much to tempt us out of it.

Why? Because it's like replacing a perfectly good toaster. A new one isn't going to make the bread taste any different - blame your choice of loaf, not the mechanism for cooking it.

@Drag

GDP isn't a relevant measure of anything, particularly if you live in a country where the distribution of wealth and huge levels of debt make the economy look like an African dictatorship anyway. It's even more laughable a measure of 'awesome' when all the nations richer than you in terms of income per capita are European.

You keep waving that big foam #1 finger, chum, we'll keep rolling our eyes.

O2 inked as UK's official Pré distributor

Count me out

The main reason I've not signed up for an iPhone is because it would involve early termination of a long Vodafone Business contract and the porting of several numbers to those disorganised clowns at O2. It makes no sense from any perspective.

The principal reason I will not be getting the Pré is because it would involve... well, I think you get the idea.

Palm, why are you getting into bed with O2 when 75% of the market is signed up to their competition? Why are you locking customers to one mobile operator when that operator is already spending millions marketing your #1 rival?

Ah well, one less shiny new thing on which to waste money...
