BT brings jobs back from India

About time

Good. offshoring is the unacceptable face of capitalism. Purely profit driven and no ethical virtues at all. BT, please dont try and use the intra company loophole! Paris, as she knows when its time to withdraw.

Broadband tax of £6 per year to fund rural fibre rollout

Hypothecated tax

No I don't think so. Its a subsidy for BT if anything, or its as hypothecated as the car tax disc, which is not at all. The big businesses have the governments ear, thats the way it works in this country now. Now I live in London my rates are £500 a year as opposed to £2000 in Suffolk. But then I dont have a garden. Life is a compromise, you cant have it all. How an earth the principle of the free market in broadband provision can be reconciled with a compulsory tax beats me. Paris as she could beat me...

BT slammed for 'importing' cheap Indian contractors

I was a BTGS contractor

Yes, I used to be a BT Global Services contractor. £400 a day was above the norm. Interesting to read about the intra company visa scheme which appears to be a convenient loophole. Offshoring brought pressure on contractor positions and then on Permie positions. I'm sure a lot of BTGS permies feel very insecure in their positions. BTGS is run by accountants who have driven it by dogma into the ground and now a massive loss. So does the off shoring business model work? errr... well probably not. The owners and directors of the Indian outsoursing companies are still making a lot of money. BTGS isnt, and customer satisfaction is down... If you think the work visa system works, why not turn up at BT Martlesham Heath outside Ipswich and observe the fleet of double decker buses that bring the non EU workers in every morning. Why not ask Chris Mole MP, Tim Yeo MP, Michael Lord MP, David Ruffley MP, John Gummer MP what they are doing about keeping Suffolk techies employed...

The Titanic business model

Good old Global Services. Old 'Sir' Ben Verwaayen got the business model right there didnt he? Outsource all development to the sub continent, now they've got BT GS by the short and curlys and charging them a bomb for everything! I feel sorry for the UK guys left bailing the sinking ship, looks like they will pay in the end.

IT salaries down and out

Dinosaurs

I think we techie developers are dinosaurs awaiting extinction. Offshoring and the recession will continue to put a downward pressure on salaries for more years. I reckon its been downhill for the last 5 years or more. Paris as she knows about going down..

Gov figures show IT jobs crisis

Joke

... and my point is

that people who work in IT know whats it like. To say that the UK IT unemployment rate has fallen is total rubbish. Now that Alaister Darling, he knows what hes talking about...

..and bears defecate in the woods...

I guess some people pay for this sort of research... amazing! UK and IT and telecoms jobs have been in steady decline since this government opened our borders to non EU workers. Off shoring is the final nail in the coffin.
