RBS IT cockup: This sort of thing can destroy a bank, normally

Re: It's amazing

"Please note it's Tax Payers that elect governments"

The problem with this, and pretty much everything run by our 'electoral' system is that thanks to safe seats and First Past The Post it's a surprisingly small number of tax payers who do actually elect governments. The rest of us just piss our vote away every 4 years.

Re: Waste of time

I think you may all be missing the point? The ISPs don't WANT to get involved in blocking sites, hence they're doing the very minimum required to say they've complied with the court order. They don't give a flying fuck if it can be circumvented in 30 seconds.

Apple make consumer devices. Consumers use wireless over wired something like 98% of the time. So it's hardly a surprise is it?

Ruler

You seem to be under the common misconception that the monarchy actually rules this country? Now I'm not totally in favour of it myself, I have some misgivings, but I'm also fully aware that HM Qeen PLC is really just a big tourist attraction, Disneyland with better accents if you like, and that the real power in Britain resides in the POLITICAL elite, elected AND unelected.

Re: 50:50 for me...

"The rest of us, and I mean absolutely everyone, uses ethernet. And if they don't they should fire their network admin."

Bollocks. I worked for a VERY large services company a while back. The office was 'hot desking' (a pain in the arse at 9:15 in the morning when there were no free desks!). Everyone got a laptop, and apart from a few wired ports the majority of the campus ran on WiFi. I'm not suggesting ALL their infrastructure was like this, but it worked fine in this situation as you could work from pretty much anywhere you could find space (including the canteen and car park!).

Don't get me bloody started on c*nts falsely claiming whiplash! Thieving bastards, and the insurance companies rarely bother to check. I even had an accident repair guy trying to persuade *me* to make a claim once when I took my car in to be fixed (after a minor rear-end shunt), even though I wasn't injured in the slightest.

THAT'S what's pushing up insurance prices.

Re: "Plus, there's no reason why cars can't safely tail off the gas themselves"

They can: my 6 year old Peugeot has cruise control that has a speed limiter option, so I can set it to say 70mph and it won't go any faster than that no matter how hard I push the pedal.

Hardware only a small part of the problem

The thing holding businesses back is application support: it's fine saying that the routing fabric will work on IPv6, even the OS(es), but only when they can be sure that every app will as well will they consider moving. We've all seen those IPv4 dotted address dialog boxes... :-\

Re: PVR to the Rescue

Agreed: I PVR the majority of my TV watching now, partly because it frees me from having to remember to be in front of the box at a fixed time (and stop what I'm doing), and also it gives the wonderful trick of zipping through the ad breaks 8-)

It's not so much the ads that annoy me nowadays as the repeated trailers for other shows, often the SAME ONES EVERY BREAK (C5 I'm looking at YOU)! If anything I they make me more likely to AVOID the trailed programme than watch it, simply because it's annoyed me so much :-\

I was in Paris last week. Loads of mopeds there, and parking for anything bigger than a mini is a nightmare! So I could see the target market for this, especially if you think of it more compared to 2 wheels, where braving the elements is nothing new.

One question though: how would it fair for tax and insurance, given it's got 4 wheels? Would the lease plan include those too?

High fidelity audio isn't just about the frequency range, but the dynamic one. A compressed recording loses a lot of the finer detail, and the dynamics, between the different instruments.

As I've got older I've noticed the top frequencies of my hearing have fallen off dramatically, but I can still pick out the subtleties, the depth, the separation, of a real high fidelity reproduction over the flat lifeless mush of an average mp3!
