Total Inability To Support User Phones: O2 fries, burning data for 32 million Brits

Daveycoder

Other mobile operators around the world are also affected?

...according to the O2 status page. Why would that be? Has everyone upgraded/changed/implemented whatever has broken the system at the same time...or is everything being routed through a single point?

Seems a bit odd to me.

WTF?

Sky cancelled my Be account without telling me!

No wonder their subscriber numbers are down - they don't seem to want to keep the existing ones!

In short, yesterday my internet went off - contacted Sky to see what was going on, and found out two things:

1). I should have received a letter or e-mail telling me that the switchover was happening. The CSR could see that nothing had been sent but couldn't see why...

2) No new account had been set up on the Sky system when my Be account had been cancelled!

(Of course, all this was solvable by getting a nice shiny new 12-month contract with Sky which would take two weeks to install). Looking on the Sky forums, I don't seem to be the only one this has happened to. Of course, as I was running my own webserver/mailserver/etc on a static IP this is no longer possible for the next couple of weeks - but not to worry. Sky "are sorry about the inconvenience". Awesome! I feel much better now.

What sort of migration doesn't count the number of 'active' customers on one side (Be) and the number of new customers on the other(sky) and check that they're the same? Anyway, hello PlusNet...

FAIL

They're also asking us to be patient while they try and fix the StupidHub

Half the time I'm not lucky enough to get onto the internet to experience these problems, because the innacuratly named SuperHub still hasn't been fixed...this debacle has been going on for months now, and there's no end in sight.

It's all well and good boasting about having the fastest network, but it means nothing if you can't get on to it, and when you can it doesn't work. Coupled with possibly one of the worst "Customer Services" departments I have ever come across, all this has convinced me to leave the minute my contract ends.

Apple iPad 2

Googles brand of lock in over Apples?

Just curious...but where's the Google lock in? Apple seems to be only compatible with Apple - I.E. if I want to code for an iPad I can only do it on an Apple using software provided by Apple in an Apple approved language, then after paying a fee to Apple I can move my software to my iPad providing I've bought a compatible connecting cable from Apple. Of course, if I want to sell my software, Apple first wants to approve it before letting me sell it - at which point Apple will take another nice big cut. I'm not even going to go anywhere near altering the OS.

That's the Apple lock in as I see it...where's Googles?

Stop

What concerns me here...

...is the line about MP3 players. Surly not a secure storage mechanism? Shouldn't these PCs be locked down a bit more than that?
