Tell Facebook who's the greatest: YOU are!

Moyra J. Bligh

There's a huge used CD/DVD/vinyl place in Toronto called Sonic Boom. I frequently go browsing in there and find things I didn't know existed, that want to come home with me.

When the items first come in they are simply placed in trays labeled with the date they arrived in store, so there is the constant click, click, click, click, click of people flipping through the CD and DVD cases. If items aren't bought in the first week, then they are filed in the places they belong for ease of finding.

Ballmer bets 'all in' on Phone 8 and Windows

Moyra J. Bligh

Had a phone with a Windows operating system *ONCE* will never make that mistake again.

And when I get to the point I have to learn a new interface, it will be a flavour of Linx/Unix and NOT Windows 8.

Stalkvertising doesn't work. It never will. They only know what you are looking at and not why.

I will never notice if it is gone - I consider it to be full of useless, ignorant, uniformed, inaccurate garbage.

All the searches I do now include -wikipedia.

As far as I'm concerned good riddance to bad rubbish.

TITANIC 'UNLIKELY' TO SINK AGAIN, says prof - apparently

Moyra J. Bligh
Unhappy

And almost no one knows that a liner went down just a little over two years after the Titanic, claiming more passenger* lives than the Titanic did.

She went down in less than 15 minutes.

Her name was the "Empress of Ireland".

*Passenger - the total loss of life with Titanic was greater, but more of the Ireland's passengers died.

CD: The indestructible music format that REFUSES TO DIE

Moyra J. Bligh

I'm sure the music industry hates me

Even though I'm not a pirate. I buy 95% of my CD's used, the ones I buy new are almost exclusively from musicians on the street or playing in a bar I happen to be in. I contribute nothing to the music industry's bottom line or their numbers.

iPlayer repeat fees threaten BBC earthquake

Moyra J. Bligh

It's the things in the BBC Archives that they've never released on CD or DVD that I'd be interested in paying for. I'm talking both TV and radio. Well, assuming they haven't wiped it, which they did with a lot of the radio prior to 1990. I'd happily pay them to download a better copy of "Telford's Change" than the one I have, or their radio version of "Merchant of Venice" with David Suchet & Hannah Gordon, as examples of programming on my long list of their shows I'd like to see or hear.

Re: Personally tailored adverts are good.

Stalkvertising is NOT good - for one thing I doesn't work, and will never work, the reason being that the stalkvertisers only know the WHAT of what we are buying/looking at - they do not know the WHY - until they have a way of determining the why, stalkvertising will always provide useless, flawed and laughable results.

Hint for the marketing morons - Have a good destination, that is easily searchable (this means no flash), let people find what they are looking for, don't shove moronic ads in peoples faces. Pull not push!

My ISP made the BIG MISTAKE of partnering with these losers a few years ago - BLOATED, UGLY, CLUDGY, UNUSEABLE WEBMAIL. Took one look, threw up and now exclusively use my domain email. Only login when I can't possibly avoid it, which is about every six months.

Cant wait until YAHSUCK no longer exists and my ISP can ditch these losers!!!!!

Google Chrome extension bars domains from search results

Moyra J. Bligh

Um, okay

I'd be more impressed if it would let me do this as a logged in Google user with whatever browser I chose to use. As in I'd be able to set this is my preferences. But, they won't even let me kill the lame and moronic suggestions that regurgitate back up from the unwashed masses and significantly slow down my searching, so I'm not holding my breath.

Missing the obvious solution

Unfortunately the Americans have never been smart enough to figure out that the best way to discourage illegal immigration from Mexico, is to make it more attractive for the Mexicans to stay home.

This would have meant that instead of investing billions on dollars on silly failed schemes like this, they should have helped the Mexican government improve the standard of living for their people. It would have cost less, and been the more effective and charitable solution.

Unfortunately, with the rampant drug and gang problems in Mexico now, it may be too late......

Apple plugs iTunes Ping into Twitter

Moyra J. Bligh
FAIL

Ping is just retarded

I'd love to have a way to disable Ping, or even better remove it from my iTunes. I regret installing the "upgrade" that forced this retarded bloat on me. It's a completely useless annoyance, and will always be. I don't care if the unwashed masses of social networking sheep know what I'm listening to, nor do I have any desire to share that information.

As soon as I can find a company other than Apple that has an mp3 and video player with a 160gig storage capacity or better, I'll be moving on.

I'm sure the suits in the recording industry hate me

99% of the CD's that I buy are second hand - there's a huge used CD/DVD place not far from me, and I raid it frequently. The rest of the CD's that I buy are ones that come directly from independent artists.

The suits in the music business get the same amount of money from me as they would if I was downloading the stuff.

Targeted advertising will NEVER work

It can only take into account WHAT people are searching for, but has no way of knowing the WHY.

Although the marketing morons all believe that if you plug a query into a search engine it MUST mean that you want to buy it.

Targeted advertising is simply corporate stalking, and should be just as illegal as other types of stalking, because it is just as creepy and offensive.

Google inspires behavioral ad-zapping Firefox add-on

Moyra J. Bligh

Just another one who believes the hype

No, it DOESN'T work.

It feels creepy and stalkerish.

It's offensive.

It DOESN'T work, because it ignores the WHY in favour of the WHAT. Until the idiots who compose this offensive creepy stalkerish stuff understand WHY people are clicking on what they are clicking, it will never be in any way effective. And there is no way to write an algorithm to tell them WHY.

An ad will much more often put me off of some product or company than it will entice me to buy from them. My reaction to about 90% of advertising generally somewhere includes the thought "Who was the braindead moron?!!!"

Keep drinking the Coolaid Mr. Hill, I hope you're happy being any apologist for the MARKETING MORONS. I pity you, and your ignorance.
