US Army moves rocket-buster raygun from lab to firing range

Test range

'It's now to be moved from Northrop's Californian labs to the White Sands Missile Range, which is also an "approved above-the-horizon high energy laser test range".'

I will wait until they find a "below-the-horizon high energy laser test range".

How to stop...

... a factory to move overseas?

You must get you union men, pack them on a RAF C-17, and parachute them in a developing nation, so that they will unionise it, raise the cost of producing in that nation, an make it more interesting to produce something in the UK and the rest of Europe.

Just look at what happened with mines. A lot of them in the US and Europe closed because they could not fight competition from outside. Now that China has a burgeoning internal market it is gobbling a lot of stuff without selling it to the outside, so a lot of those mines will soon be profitable again, to feed OUR internal market...

The JP7 is nothing but "regular". It was developed for and used only on the SR-71 Blackbird, the plane that dripped fuel until its fuselage heated and sealed itself while flying.

The "regular" jet fuels used by the military are JP8 (US Air Force) and JP5 (US Navy on board carriers, MUCH higher flash point).

The unions all over Europe keep blabbering about "Defending the european worker", but that's only hot air.

The only thing they could do to really defend the workers would be parachuting by nighttime in chinese factories, and start unionising them to give the chinese workers a higher pay and more free time.

But that would mean running some kind of risk, so that will never happen...

Hit the dumpster...

@Pirate Dave:

> if a pilot takes off from a carrier and for some reason has to land quickly

> ocean before he can land?

In an emergency you ALWAYS dump fuel and armament, even on a conventional carrier.

The only emergency where you do not dump the armament is when your bombs got armed before you drop them, in which case whatever harsh you do would detonate them: landing on a carrier, dumping the bombs, ejecting. The only thing you can do is a soft landing on a land base, then wait for the EOD.

The problem with the Harriers is that in hot weather they do not have the power to land vertically with unexpended armaments.

Now, the question is: I have never heard about the Italian Navy dumping AMRAAMs when landing on the Garibaldi. Neither about the Marines doing the same. What is the problem with British Harriers?

Emilio Desalvo
