HBO slaps takedown demand on 13-year-old girl's painting because it used 'Winter is coming'

How can they trademark the phrase when there are so many examples of prior art in the public domain of the use of this phrase going back long long before HBO's show. Do a google image search for the phrase and you will see its used in lots of memes and similar images to the one produced by this poor child.... I dont understand who's arse got bend out of shape by the picture for this to even ever happen.... Oh wait....

Could this be a publicity stunt to keep the stupid show in peoples mind and in a few days/weeks they will issue a public apology and invite the kid onset for a photo opportunity and to make amends..... watch this space.

Huawei Mate 9: The Note you've been waiting for?

Dont forget the missing forward facing stereo speakers and the resolution... actually its more like a larger p8 in more ways.

Ex-Microsoft Bug Bounty dev forced to decrypt laptop for Paris airport official

Simples they already imaged the drive previously, why she slept or what ever, got stumped by the encryption and needed the password and now she handed it over... Surprised someone like this doesnt use some form of two factor (ubi key or what ever).. Now the frogs have all your 1's n 0's in plain text.

Seagate's triple-headed Cerberus could SAVE the DISK WORLD

Reg HPC man relives 0-day rootkit GROUNDHOG DAY

So did you or anyone actually run an offline virus scan using a boot cd/usb?

Like other say rootkits hide pretty well, so if your trying to fix it remotely/using a booted live os its a pretty impossible task, tools like unhackme work to a level and help dig out most things.

These days if i cant manually identify an infection and scrub it in less than 60 mins i pull the system and run an offline scan using at lest two different offline scanners, because the rootkit has much less of a chance to hide (its not actively running).

Spies spy: CrowdStrike report says cyberspooks are EVERYWHERE

The article needs updating as MS already stated they had extended the cut of from 2014 to 2015 for XP.

Even reported by the reg here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/01/16/microsoft_xp_security_updates_extended/

Helium-filled disks lift off: You can't keep these 6TB beasts down

Hopefully Seagate can now give us heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) and blow helium filled drives out of the water and stop the SMR (Shingled magnetic recording) rubbish... i dont want 6TB its still not big enough.. 10TB + PLEASE !!

With HARM being released hopefully in the next Q, I wouldn't consider even looking at these drives until i see what size seagate throws down size wise..

Fiendish CryptoLocker ransomware: Whatever you do, don't PAY

Its ok, but in honesty a lack of variable zoom or mouse pointer sucks, i will stick to Remote RDP Enterprise on android, with the mouse in trackpad mode its by far the best system ive used on a small screen.

Do-it-yourself Dropbox: Western Digital's My Cloud 2TB NAS box

Why bother, when you can rock an OwnCloud server... http://owncloud.org/ (which has android and apple support as well as desktop support).

One Low Power Atom Board or Opteron X-Series Board, Check

One case with lots of drive bays and proper drive cooling, Check

As many sata ports as you can shoe in, be it pci, pcie, minipcie, Check

One penguin base distribution, Check

Off you go :)

That said, rsync works just fine for most things.

Not work! - Firmware hacks

I used to flash motos back in the day, sadly all the core boards/forums have now mostly gone i saw motohell was still rocking.

Not sure if it would be possible to unpack and stock firmware and start from there. I do remember people rocking firmwares with extra menu options in, but its a long way back and its a bit fuzzy now..

Personally i wouldnt bother, the great battery life came from the fact the cpu was pretty much as powerful as a casio solar powered calculator, the interface was a pos for a reason.

Personally i would just retire it back to the draw you found it in.

BlackBerry and Apple pie this summer. Or BBM-onna-Droid

The tipping point...

I can see why they have done it... but seriously most people i know who had bb were peoples kids and only because they could use bbm... its going to be really interesting to see how this one plays out...!

Seagate's bottom line smacked as users bin desktops for tablets

SSD Anyone

Ok people moving to tablets has probably hurt their bottom line, but after the floods and a large amount of fixing (sorry correction wrong word), inflating the price of drives for so long to keep things profitable. Many people i know said we i dont really need all that space, i might as go with an SSD instead.

2 years ago, 1 in 20 system i built had an ssd, currently its like 60 - 70% of systems go out the door with just an ssd or an ssd as a boot drive.

Also i suspect due to the increased price's of drives post flooding many people were RMA'ing bad drives which would normally have been canned, due to the resale cost.

Search engines we have known ... before Google crushed them

AT Strings

As we reminiscing the modem days, dont forget flashing up USR modems to unlock their full potential (thanks USR) or screwing about with AT strings to get a bit better through put on what ever bbs.

Ahhh the hours spent in the draw creating some ansi animation that lasted for a full 5 seconds lolz.

Oh and dont forget ICE Z Modem Protocol, (wooot, two way chat and a download on the go).

And being envious of the guys with multi node ring downs and hoping your mum wouldn't cut you of by picking up the phone.

Ahhh wipes tear from the eye, those were the days.

New I-hate-my-neighbour stickers to protect Brits' packages

Is it legal

Ive had my sticker on for weeks, I would love someone to investigate the legality of the post office doing this, essentially if they are contracted to deliver to X address and they deliver to another address that is surely a breach of contract. I dont want to have to explain to a customer that their consignment of parts has gone missing because the idiots next door signed for it.

Windows goes Mobile 6.5

Thumb Up

About time

Considering that WM6.5 was suppose to appear in beta before Windows 7 Beta its about time they announced this.

Regarding someones comments about about the tytn II phone, ive ran wm6 and 6.1 on my phone, i did notice a speed up with wm6.1 over 6 however it was never slow with 6.

Im not sure what rom your using, possibly its a badly cooked rom or packed full of your operators bloat thats not needed personally i jailbrake the operators customisation packs on my phones and run the stock rom.

I do agree it would be nice to see windows mobile 7 offering some nicer visual updates, but to me windows mobile has always been the most flexible, im happy to do away with all the eye candy for something that does the job properly and thats why i love windows mobile.

There simply hasnt been a time where ive though um would be helpful if my phone did x where i couldnt either write/mod an app to do it or find some software that did.

it makes me laugh all the tree hugging and possibly linux fan boys who just flame something for being microsoft, im not saying microsoft is always no 1 or the best but until the google os (android) grows a little older i wont even dream of leaving windows mobile.

Ark Ark.
