Documents in Assange rape probe leak onto the net

My Swedish friends say...

...it's a complete stitch-up.

All this information and more has been in the public domain in Sweden for quite a while. The overwhelming majority of the population appear to be surprised at the action of their authorities in this case - they find it all highly unusual. And most think that that the case, is an excuse the get Assange detained somewhere, prior to an extradition to the US.

As a country, Sweden isn't usually one to kow-tow to American whims, but nor are they usually pitched against the US either - so I tend to take these opinions at face value.

Hackers crack Ubisoft always-online DRM controls

Quelle surprise!

It's only us paying customers that have to suffer the DRM. I even know people who buy the game but download the pirated version...

It's notable that shortly after this genre of DRM announced by Ubisoft, that they also announced that they were mainly going to concentrate on sequels and franchises...

Best RC Ever?

To be fair, the RC has been rock solid for me over the last few months. Quite literally not a single problem with it - perhaps I got lucky. Then again, having had regular problems with XP until then, in 2006 I installed Vista x64 and have had a performant & hassle-free experience since. Choosing Linux over Windows is a reasonable choice for some people, but running XP on post-2006 hardware is just folly.

I'm not an MS fanboi - but credit where credit is due. While W7 is still missing some of the features promised for Vista (WinFS anyone?), it's still a really good OS.

Rose-tinted Spectacles?

Why would anyone expect Vista/Win7 to be faster than XP? I remember the same nonsense in 2001 when everyone complained that XP was slower than Win2K and Win98. Doh!

Every successive Windows OS will get slower, simply because they are designed to be more sophisticated each time, and not faster and faster.

If you are stuck with XP-era hardware, by all means stick with XP. If you have modern hardware (>2006), Vista and Win7 run great - certainly a lot better than XP did on my Athlons and P4s in 2001.

And there also seems to a whole raft of people passing comment on the failings of Win7 without having even tried the RC (which was the most stable and functional RC I've ever seen).

If I was unsure before...

...I'm not now. I shall certainly be voting Tory. Still I'd have preferred it if he had gone the whole nine yards and also proclaimed that MyFace users are a bunch of sad c**ts with too much time on their hands. Because they are.

It's not about the Aspergers...

The fact is that the law that allows this to happen a) sucks and b) is not reciprocated. The guy did next to nothing but the US is treating him like Public Enemy Number 1.

In this country, he'd receive a short sentence or probably only a community service order. But the US are bigging him up to make an example of him.

But I like Eduardo's idea if putting him in an orange jumpsuit... If they guy could only convince the US that he'd be persecuted if he came back to the UK, he might find himself one of the lucky one sent to Bermuda...

Shoddy

As others have pointed out, you need to get your act together re: pricing.

The Samsung is the cheapest, the fastest and the quietest. Only the Seagate comes near.

The only other factor is reliability; In my experience, the Hitachi is trailing (along with Maxtor) and the the Samsung & Seagate are up in front, but YMMV.
