I would much rather source balanced product information from successful social shopping websites with a strong community ethos which work like wikipedia in the realm of consumer products.
The web is well placed to give anybody who wants to speak a voice and I think these sites, via small groups of passionate enthusiasts will give a platfrom for quality products and niche brands and help offset the power of big marketing budgets and deliver some real transparency for people looking to buy a new laptop, camera, car seat etc.
After all think about the political world - where would we be if we only listened to the experts (Bush anyone?) and didn't have the courage to let the voices of many find the true level?
