Ten... dirt-cheap voice phones

Dale Le Page

Why they charge more for cash....

It's all to do with box breaking, where a phone is bought to be sold on abroad. Obviously these phones are subsidised by the carriers/dealers, and to recoup their money they need them to be topped-up and used. They seem to have found most box-breakers are none to keen to hand over their plastic.

On another note, the articles claims the Nokia 2330 Classic and 2220 Slide are the same, they are not. The 2220 doesn't have bluetooth!

A correction

"The Mobile Hot Spot feature allows you to access the internet over the phone's 3G connection by connecting up to five devices to them over WiFi. "The Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will be the world's first devices to provide this capability," Stratton said."

Wrong. The HTC HD2 can do this, I work for T-Mobile and we've been showing this off to customers since it was launched. Have to love Palm's hyperbole sometimes, doesn't it also sync with iTunes?

It was Tony Blair who replaced John Smith in 1994, not Kinnock.

Online retailer offers Sim-free iPhone 3Gs

Does this mean.....

That HMV will start offering this? As a Guernsey citizen, all iphones are unlocked even when bought from the networks (They even give you a charger adaptor!) and as HMV direct is based there, don't suppose they'll be doing the same to bring the prices down?

Although, guess they don't want to hurt their ipod sales in store.

Oh, and FYI, Jersey isn't in the EU so that's not the relevant legislation. Is due to their status as crown dependencies and access to the common market, not the Union.

O2 wins UK Palm Pré exclusive?

Eh?

Seriously guys, why are you all so against network tied handsets? I can understand not being enthused, but seriously angry? Chill guys!!

Cold-water treatment for Ballmer on Windows Mobile

re: Aristotle

Can answer your questions for you, as a mobile phones salesman for a number of years (Gotta pay for Uni somehow!) I will hold my hands up and say that yes, Windows Mobile sucks. Badly. Its not as good at e-mail as the Blackberry's, Android kicks it all over the park already when it comes to web browsing and the iPhone is a much better media device.

Windows mobile offers nothing that is not available elsewhere, especially now that netbooks or mini-laptops are so cheap and widespread. Tried using mobile office on a recent Windows Mobile handset? Its a nightmare, especially on the Omnia.

Throw in a truly byzantine set-up process that is impossible for most consumers to manage unaided (Compared with the G1 for example, which takes seconds) and the worst options system I've ever seen, and its no reason we seem to have stopped selling them all together!

Mine's the one with the G1 in the pocket.....

Windows goes Mobile 6.5

Dale Le Page

Why?

Seriously, winmob offers nothing that isn't available better elsewhere. E-mail and organiser? Get a blackberry. Internet browsing? iPhone! Or better yet, get an android phone and install these things on there!!

Sony Ericsson J132 vs LG KP100

Happy

From experience

We're ranging both these handsets in our stores at the moment (T-Mobile) and the SE J132 is miles ahead of the LG when it comes to setting up phones for the older customer. Much easier navigation, and a battery life that is truly amazing considering the price makes it the hands down winner.

Hardly suprising

Having worked in the mobile sector for far longer than I'd be proud to admit to, this is hardly surprising. Everything they have produced since the V3 has been pants, and even saying that the V3 was a pretty poor handset in every respect except looks!

Good riddance, they were a bugger to sell anyway!

Eek!

Put android on it and they'd have got a million and one sales! As it is, it'll be another Omnia that has great paper specs but is held back by a truly awful OS.
