Re: Yup... the result of "responsible" disclosure

most "responsible" disclosure if the company does not fix the issue within good time (3-6months?) they norm go public with it

Everything Everywhere prices up UK 4G

leexgx

THree use the 3g DC-HSPA+(42mb) that shares HSPA+(21mb/14mb) and HSDPA 7.2mb so real speeds on three tend to be more around 3-10mb on tablet/Dongles that support DC-HSPA+ (42mb) as i know of no phone that supports DC-HSPA+

LTE 100mb is first 4g tech in the UK (up to 100-150mb on tablets all mobile phones 100mb Not moving,, USeable most likey 20-60mb to begin with until more uses start to use it) is what's been implemented in the UK

LTE-ADV will be the one that supports up to 1000mb not moving (500-600mb usable per device) and 100mb when moving at high speed (like an train), next 3-7 years

leexgx

Re: Sorry but...

the LTE that's going to be used at the start is LTE 100mb (maybe LTE150 on tablets) its LTE-ADV will support them speeds that you posted posted

BBC Watchdog crew sink teeth into dodgy PC repair shops

leexgx

do people still have Working IDE systems :)

any way Moving an hard drive jumper in this day and age is poor showing on Watchdog as Jumpers do not Move them self's (i would of worked that out in the end any way) but the company was dodgy any way so did not matter really

i mite of had some one Check on me about 3-4 years ago as i come across an pc that seemed like it was Setup for me to fix (problem that could of only been made by some one not by mistake like, Watchdog moving jumpers that do not move them self)

the Ram or lose IDE cable is what they should of done as some jobs i do come across are in fact lose ram

O2 kicks out Ericsson server for breaking its network

leexgx

three main issue is not placing new masts to fill dead spots in and out doors (less then 10% signal) but that could be more an issue with not having much bandwidth compared to all of the other networks and they use 2100 band as well, so walls Really love three network (i am sitting between 3 t-mobile/three masts problem is 10%< to no signal in doors so it tends to stall the radio on the phone a lot as its switching between the masts, been like that for 5 years)

i cant fault there customer support thought (i know more then most customer service reps do normally, Three they are basically at my level when talking to them so its nice to bad network coverage is not) only issue is when you want to leave that is, it take you an Hour to get connected and they try and keep you by lowering contract price (at least the call is free)

BT Infinity customers hit by outages at 'third party peering network'

Re: Taken Months

at least BT fix the problems whereas Virgin just ignore them until the cab has been set on fire

virgin media oversubscribed Upstream area, next fix in 3 months emm nope 3 months err can't do add 3 more months, Virgin just need to ad More upstream channels at the big cabs... why they have 100 downstream chans but only 5 upstream

they need to stop ignoring oversubscribed areas as they just switch to Sky FTTC (maybe talktalk or BT), the good thing is when they move off Virgin my connection will work normally again, but i mite end up switching as i like my ping at an constant 30 then an avg 60 (+/- 60 jitter + up to 5-30% packet loss between 4pm and midnight)

Nokia pumps up Lumia browsing with Xpress

Re: I'll stick to Opera thanks.

Problem is there is No Opera browser for the wp7 yet/ever

i know as i have an wp7 phone (nokia 800) apps for it are incomplete or not up to scratch or no app at all

good thing is once windows 8 (PC/Phone/ARM tablet) is out, if its on the windows marketplace it will be most likely be on the phone as well as the framework is setup so you can port the app between the 3 different types of hardware very easily

Re: Am I the only one...

As an blackberry user (ish I use an android backup phone for the fun stuff) just I got used to the keyboard on the bb for fast calendar input

I sold me HTC one x to get the moto razr maxx

I am actually typeing this on nokia 800 (tempory) now for the most part it is good every thing is smooth running, but key apps need work (Facebook eBay twitter, even your own the register app need fixing as you can't reply on top of reply on the win phone app and if an currant reply is to long it gets cut off with empty space ) offer issue that still needs fixing is the browser messing with text size (that bug has been there from day one wp7 was released ) it happen on this page now 2-3 of the posts text size is like font size 2 there is no opera mini for wp7 as well

Do not see how wp8 is going to fix apps that are not getting any love (if they are even on the market in the first place)

Top admen beg Microsoft to switch off 'Do Not Track' in IE 10

leexgx

Re: Not really...

@Oninoshiko

no normal person reads that (they just press next and finish to make it go away) so its on by default user does not understand why or what it is

leexgx

why his post was liked so much, advertisers are just going to ignore the DNT flag if IE10 is detected as it has an incorrect DNT default on setting, Apache has all ready added it to there ignore list (other browsers are not affected and the DNT will work as intended )

EE sets October date to power up UK 4G network

leexgx

(dc-)HSPA+ is not 4g

""""""HSDPA+ service, which can deliver data close to the 30-ish megabits-per-second 4G EE will offer. But doing so won't get them the little "4G" logo.""""""""

DC-HSPA+ (41mb) is still not an 4g network (guessing its an USA Writer) still uses HSDPA/HSPA+ and UMTS space your lucky if you can get 8mb on HSPA+ the avg been 4mb or lower

4g in the EU norm stads for 4th Generation network (not 4 speed as the USA mobile operators like to call it, and due to network load HSPA+ is only about 1-2mb faster then HSDPA and that avg speed in the USA is 0.5-2mb or lower)

Virgin Media STILL working on fix for SuperHub corrupt downloads glitch

leexgx

i still got the 50mb V2 modem (black one with blue lights) works fine on 100-110mb profile (seems to be 110mb as i get 11% when i download as they seem to add 10% on the profile to what ever broadband option your paying for as my 50mb was bit faster)

i agree with the issues with oversubscribed area as packet loss or as important ping Jitter, something that does not happen on ADSL or FTTC lines normally as every one gets an dedicated link via the phone cable to each house

where as cable its shared among loads of streets (most be 20 streets on mine or more) to make it simpler it slike 2 way Wifi (there is an upload and an downlink) more that use it the worst it gets but main issue is Upstream most cabs only have 4! where as downstream can go into the 100 range (max i seen is 101 on mine)

but i have been told that Virgin (no confirmation just Engineer that came out to fit Tivo box) they seem to be going to be doing basically what BT are doing but take it farer, they are going to drag Fibre cable to the Street cabs them serfs so issues should only be limited to street level not an whole Block, where as the moment it goes to an main Virgin (FTTC) cab point and then its copper from there on currently, so when to many users start torrent and not setting there upload to 11KB (default is Blast the upload 0=max) does not take many users to make packet loss or Very high ping (above 100+ then packetloss) and end result is you got an 100mb connection that cant load pages properly

been thinking of posting letters throw every ones door with an cable box on there house asking them to refine from using illegal torrents or at least set the upload limit to 11 (ask your kids) so not to affect every one els connection

that's why i am selling my HTC one X (ebay item 190726103100 if your interested) not really bad phone just i tend need little more battery life, aiming for the Razr maxx my self

Everything Everywhere's 4G: Why I'm sitting this one out

leexgx

Re: Speed?

lol that comment is funny if your using Opera mini set to Low image quality then the page mite load within 10-30 seconds depending on content, on 3g most pages load within good time LTE just offers a lot more speed (100/150mb [mobile/tablet]is most likely going to be the max in the UK until LTE-Adv comes) and Lower latency

leexgx

Re: More than that...

to many on the local mast can get very poor speeds (tends to be more an issue in events or places where there is lots of users in one spot)

leexgx

Re: Been using 4G on work trips to Asia

2000mha battery is still to small why i am selling my HTC one X and getting the Razor Maxx as i want something that does not resemble an iPlug (plug it in 2-3 times an day to top it up) as the Maxx has close to 2 day use or 1 day if you go mad on it

LTE Plus small battery (2000 or lower) you be charging it 2-3 times an day, 4g and 3g off same as before you get 1-2 days use out of it on 2g

""And if two years ago, Nokia had released multi-core phones with hardware far in excess of what WP7 required for the sake of meeting the requirements of a phone two years down the line, you would not have been critical of that?""

they was not allowed to use an Dual core cpu with WP7, same limit applied to ram (but with 7.5 they allowed 256mb i think but IMO thats an Bad idea as you end up with an phone that cant run any thing new that need more ram or it not run well) and screen pixel was locked to one screen size, WP8 allows dual core(upto64), 3 screen size modes and 1gb of Ram

when my blackberry dies i most likely get an windows 8 phone I mainly use it for business use (calendar and calls) do all my fun stuff on my backup android phone

the HTC One X (1800 ? battery) i currently use but most likely going to sell it (i am selling it) and get an Motoroar Droid RAZOR MAXX (3200 battery) as battery life is really bugging me not lasting an day unless i charge it up for another hour (get an day out of it if do not use it at all 2 days if i use 2G only) as the razor maxx should get me 2 days, 1 day worst case, where as other smartphones (not just HTC) your lucky if you get day life out of it worst case 2-4 hrs), most android phones are just like iPlug phones (most of the time needing the usb charge cable)

((( @dogged

Windows 8 has several good points. DNT is one of them.

Personally, I use Firefox but I have to go and find the setting every damn time I install it. For the "default" browser that the technically non-adept are likely to use to turn off tracking by default - that's a good thing by the standards of anyone who isn't just out to score points against Microsoft.

If Opera did this, the fourteen people who use Opera would be crowing it from the heavens.)))

DNT was never meant to be enabled by default, this was to be expected to happen <DNT enabled> what browser IE10 Ignore DNT flag as its not been set by the user

AVG is as bad as it installs an DNT plugin that enables DNT by default on all browsers where the plugin is supported (if you uninstall it iAVG nags you to death to reinstall it), maybe some one important can give AVG the up on not to do with DNT

O2 looses legal torpedo at Everything Everywhere 4G monopoly

leexgx

Re: Stupid Luddites

again depends where you are O2 have some Edge masts on the newer ones (but personally i find its Unreliable EDGE compared to GPRS from my own use yes its faster but its only 2-3x faster then GPRS when it Works)

i have Never seen EDGE on Orange (ok i lie i seen it 3 times for about 10 seconds) i prefer if they just stick with GPRS as like above i tend to have issues with EDGE connection (blackberry on GPRS battery life 3-4 days, when on 3G maybe day or 2 and soem times issues with dropped calls)

leexgx

Re: hilarious

i found O2 around whrer i am they been deploying loads of new 3G masts (guess its Due to the 3G900 as 3G it self does not like Overlapping masts unlike 2G networks but as O2 now have 2 3g Bands now they can fill in the gaps with an 900mast and it not interfere with the 1800masts that are close by)

as orange and T-mobile have mast sharing now my orange phone now works in 2 places it never worked before (never really had an issue with Orange coverage for the most part)

really depends where you live (3/T-mobile/NBNL masts 3G 99% coverage is outdoors and in Greenbelt land only, gets very random lucky if the Phone will be still on its own network once you get indoors most likely be roaming on Orange 2g network, i found my t-mobile phone most of the time on Oranges 3g network or Drop to 2g if it supports it {3uk no 2g, uses 2g Orange roaming but its Very unreliable})

leexgx

Re: bull

better then USA calling HSPA+ fake 4G when its only little Bit faster then HSDPA (Real world use as all the UMTS or HSDPA traffic messes with the HSPA+ signal so ends up most of the time only been 0.5-3MB faster then HSPA+)

4G (LTE or defunt Wimax) is Generation not Speed (even thought the mobile networks in the USA have bulled the ITU into calling it speed not Tech Generation jump)

AMD to double up cores with Jaguars

Re: Damnit, the naming theme is cats?

bobcat (seem to be slower then intel atom) CPUs annoy the Hell out of me, the CPU is slower then systems that are 4-7 years older (slower then celeron in some cases, like Mouse lock ups due to the cpu getting stuck for about 1-2 seconds) and this is talking about an Dual core bobcat

only thing thats good about them is the GPU

AMD need to do what intel have done Not allow an netbook CPU/APU in an full size notebook/laptop

the Daft thing is for around the same price (£320-£380) you can get an i3 or an intel dual core sandy bridge or an bulldozer AMD laptop that are about 3-7x faster(intel) 2-3x if its bulldozer)

((((The misleading thing about the BT advert is that the girl shows the router connection strength meter and deduces that they must have a fast internet connection.))))

maybe they can get an signal but can they connect to the router (in its default config)

i agree as well as that the stupid hub N wireless part is partly incompatible with a lot of laptops, phones and wireless printers (Printers i found as the most incompatible with the hub3) switch off the N and Make sure you set the channel to an Fixed number (as that can make more issues then having N turned on)

down side with the above you can never get more then 25-30mb out of 54g and if your on FTTC you need an new n300 router from the start (at least sky "cida" and talktalk do not have the issue with wireless N but i have only setup 1 sky and talktak setup on FTTC) BT i forget the FTTC part i have had to Fix the settings on loads of BThub3s (and to top that off you can't enable 40 and keep g on as well at the same time)

Re: Surprise surprise

does not mean it not work (VPN bypasse 3 DPI tethering detector) if its an 3 Branded phone the phone is setup with 2 APNs bit harder to bypass as the Wifi and BT use the second APN (or the Phone reports to 3 thats its tethering and you get an instant your not allowed to tether page)

Charging people twice for the same thing? Om nom nom.-------------

unless its an iPhone or an Branded phone (3 do it) they cant really block tethering, T-mobile stating they are not allowing tethering does not matter as you can still tether any way (i got an PAYG iphone 12 month Sim in my laptop built in modem was not expecting it to work, same goes for dongles OK yes its Only 500MB an month but if you use that up you can still use it as it has Unlimited web use (256kb/s or 20KB/s) bit slow but i only use the laptop to do web looking)

Re: Sure, at box hill

funny that they used one of the most used network in the UK (orange,T,3 count as well)

when this news posted, the GPS devices use O2 it was like err, well what you expect to happen Olympics + O2 = congestion, why do you think they are offering free wifi

almost every one i know has o2 (or giffgaff) i know a lot that have orange and t-mobile, Vodafone is very rare, i see more 3uk phones then Vodafone

they should of used Vodafone as they norm have plenty of capacity due to the lower user count and mostly due to pricing that target business users (why most GPS trackers use Vodafone) as Vodafone norm works everywhere (even thought it most likely only be 2G a lot of the time, that GPS trackers use only any way)

Virgin Media staves off cable punter seepage

leexgx

Re: if it wasn't for the hassle of...changing our emails

i completely agree on the issue with the lame packet loss or high ping, cant play BF3 as ping Jitter at times so take 2 steps forward get bounced back 1 step or i cant move at all as i end back where i was

this is my street on all DOCSIS 3 (super hubs) all info is live with

http://bqm1.greenfrog.biz/

http://bqm2.greenfrog.biz/

http://bqm3.greenfrog.biz/

http://bqm4.greenfrog.biz/ (20mb Blue cable modem DOCSIS 2 norm is ok 99% over 30 days so results for most of the time are below 30-70 ping with no packet loss, apart from when i posted this as last month never seen it hit 140ping before)

------------------------------------

funny thing is we are not talking about virgin media email here you do know its google mail that Virgin use (there is some VM stuff in there but thats just the login bit)

same for Sky as well accept Sky made an balls work of it when moving over to google sky mail and thought it be an good idea to change the Name of the pop3 and SMTP server to something like tools.mail.sky.com from mail.sky.com (and they Black-holed the old mail server so users who have had sky for long time was getting no server error {that must of made call waiting times on the call center go up as Most users ignored the email that was telling them to update mail settigns} when all they had to do was just Point the mail MX? to google like Virginmedia did)

I guess you could say Three and t-mobile have buddied up ish (MBNL wiki) as most of Three masts are 50/50 share with t-mobile, but now T-mobile and Orange have that roaming agreement between masts t-mobile do not need to setup any more masts with Three any more

i like the blackberry them self's (guess its just the keyboard i like and instant email I care less for BBM as i never use it) when i whent from an BB 8520 to an 9870 i was about to send it back to orange as they F up the calender on it (i can live with agenda view, on the newer blackberry OS they made the calender view 2 spaces big and it ignores the Hide time rules i want Only to see times from 9am to 6PM on the newer OS it just "greys" them out so very useless Agenda view is fine)

i was waiting for an windows 7 mobile to come out and i thought i just buy an cheap 8520 from ebay see what they was like, 2 years later i am still using an blackberry if Rim fail i just get an windows 8 phone when they come (no point been stuck with dead end windows 7 phones)

Re: The end of free wifi ?

this just seems like UMA (if the router is compatible your phone uses the wifi connection as an access point to Home Cell network in the UK case only network that uses UMA is Orange, Why 3UK Never Implemented UMA who knows as they need it more then any other network), surprises me why all network Operators do not use UMA as it fills in so many dead spots that all networks have all you need is an wifi connection (that's compatible Norm any None N router is fine, as i find it never works on my phone and 3 other Android phones i have played with that are on orange)

but with Hotspot 2 that seems to now auto connects on its own if it finds an compatible hotspot2 wifi AP and starts an UMA connection over it but bit more complicated then UMA , I just hope they make it for Any network

other posters on here this is mostly for users with No signal or to offload Cell load onto an wifi connection
