NBN Co launches fibre-to-the-building product

Re: Spoiled For Choice?

"are we likely to get this new FttB thing or will they simply wire up the remaining units to HFC and use that instead?"

Which would you prefer? DOCSIS 3.1 may have more to give than Vectored VDSL.

NBNCo may take into account the cost / benefit as they are for FTTN/FTTP on an area by area basis.

In the mean time you could shift the cost question more towards HFC by signing up for Telstra's cable broadband and so increase the proportion of units already cabled. Current Telstra HFC will almost certainly be an improvement on ADSL.

Sydney wallows in cesspit of WiFi obsolescence and ignorance

Harbour Bridge has plenty of WiFi

Actually, I see many WiFi APs when I travel across the Harbour Bridge.

Its an elevate position over Dawes Point and Milsons Point on the other side. Even in the middle of the bridge over the water you have un-obstructed 'view' to each side.

Re: @article author: reading comprehension FAIL

What you say makes sense. So I upgraded to v34 and tried it out by logging into a couple of sites. No request to save password.

Bendy or barmy: Why your next TV will be curved

Andrew Witham

Creating sweet spots that restrict the positions available for viewing is only one problem of a curved screen. You also lose a major advantage of the OLED screen being very thin.

Big screens will struggle to find a home if they don't fit un-obtrusively close to the wall and allow freedom to view from as much of the room as possible. Big TV for personal viewing doesn't fit well for a mass market.

We are going to need big screens to have any chance of appreciating 4k let alone the emerging 8k. They will also need to become mass market to pay for the development and production setup.

My guess is that the curve is an early gimmick to stand out in the shop. I wouldn't want a curved screen, but I'd really like a 4k/8k OLED

Thumb Up

SSL for Search Next?

It wouldn't stop access from being blocked altogether.... but it would prevent the possibility of selective blocking of search terms which would other wise manipulate results.

Stop

Why?

What is the issue here?

What public interest would be served by a prosecution (if there was in fact any offence)? If none then this question is only of technical academic importance at best.
