Europe tickles Microsoft with €561m fine for browser choice gaffe

Joke

Monetary fines mean nothing to a company like Microsoft that can afford to pay without blinking an eye.

If they take away the rights of others, should not their rights be taken away as punishment?

Rather prohibit them from making any sales in the affected countries for 17 months!

i know.. i know... would never work....

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9810

Thumb Down

Not even if I got one for free!

I have an original torch and curse it every day.

EVERY DAY - MULTIPLE TIMES!

The OS is slow, buggy and freezes consistently (then takes 5min to start up again), the battery life is atrocious (Wi-Fi/BT = off and data set to 2G only) + the touch screen is a pain!

Getting shafted by RIM for not providing the upgrade to OS 6.1 - oh sorry; OS 7.0 was the nail in the coffin for me - I will not consider another BB, even if i get it for free from work. (in which case my 3rd year old will have a new toy ;-)

Our BB users (most of them on their 3rd of 4th unit) have all had complaints/problems the last few months (current disaster not counting) - this once loyal user base is diminishing fast.

Most of our clients have moved over to iPhone's and a select few to Android based devices.

Surprisingly they are generally very happy with their phones and features and rarely complain.

With Symbian out of the picture and Nokia going Windows mobile (oh dear....) it will soon be a 2 horse race in the smart-phone arena!

Do you not know what an OCP is?

Then you better read Excession!

Problem with making a movie of this book is that it would only be a few minutes long.

50% of the dialogue is between ship minds which all took place is a few microseconds ;-)

(Even the battle scenes are measured in seconds)

Have to agree that "Consider Phlebas" or even "Player of Games" would be better movie options as both would appeal to a wider audience + would hopefully generate enough interrest/revenue to make UoW / Excession which would make me *very* happy!

If you are not the SciFi type - try reading "The Bridge", this is one of Iain Banks (note the missing "M.") non-culture books - you will be reading it more than once....

Compatibility

Microsoft's only interest in compatibility is their hand in our pockets.

Why is it impossible for the biggest (and richest) software company in the world to make their software versions backwards compatible?

(not to mention the problems I have opening up the documents my wife creates on her mac running Office X)

Why do we need to be forced to use a 2nd standard which is blatantly inferior to the existing one?

GREED!
