Mobile directory made legal threats to get personal details

(il)legal threats

Errr, the spamflingers might be entitled to REQUEST information, that does not mean the ISP's are obliged to hand it over.

If they are too thick to understand the meaning of request then they surely cannot be trusted with private information. I can't see them being any better than politicians or (un)civil servants!

Beeb tech boss seeks to expand TV licence online

BBC Tax

So Huggers doesn't believe in a free ride, consume BBC services and pay the licence. Surely then, if you don't consume BBC services Huggers must believe you don't need to pay the BBC fee. I really cannot see Huggers standing by that point of view. I rather think he would prefer every person in the country paying the BBC tax, reguardless of wether they used a TV or not.

New model for the Internet!

Ummmmm, is this "new" idea of restricting access to websites in any way similar to the system extant in some countries of restricting access to some websites in return for not beating the shite out of users?

Get your measurements right.

I can forgive much, but not major innaccuracies by a supposedly educated, technically literate reporter.

A Parsec is NOT the distance to the nearest star. Since the nearest star is our own sun that distance is around 93 million miles or somewhere around 150 million Kilometers. A tenth of that would have these Black Holes orbiting a whole lot closer than Mercury orbits the sun,

A Parsec is a Parallax Second (look it up) and is, I think, about 3.2 lightyears,

Perhaps one of the Reg Hacks could put this into one or more of the somewhat idiosyncratic Reg units of measure. I'd do it myslf but I really can't be bothered, plus I've forgotten them. Your fault for not reminding me often enough.

BNP races to get membership list off the net

Torn

I must confess that in general I'm in favour of things which embarrass or hurt these idiots. (Personal opinion.)

However, I also believe in one rule for all. If it's OK to reveal BNP identities then it has to be OK to expose Falung Gong members in China, practicing christians in several islamic countries or atheists in bible-belt America; all of which could be hazardous to the economic, social and/or physical well being of the respective groups.

I can only hope that whatever the short term pain, greater openness and better education will lead to more enlightened social evolution.

Government protection or ID theft?

How amazing, a bunch of backwoods hicks, (I can't see such behaviour could be carried out by reasonable human beings,) have decided to take a few things they find objectionable. I wonder if GAAAAAD told them to do it.

It does highlight the increase in power idiots have received via the internet., and the stupidity of American politicians. (Please note, I concider politicians to be a different species from humans, American or otherwise.)

If they get away with this then the only way out will be to take control of the internet (highly simplified, I know.) away from the colonials.
