I don't know about the whole calander
but the only thing I find offensive about that image was apparently they used a mannequin rather then a women.
Seriously though, I don't think she could look more plastic (and no, that's not attractive).

You SHOULDN'T be doing anything "interesting."
We perceive the OS to be boring, and that's a good thing. You may not have noticed, but computers are REALLY common. As in "as common as a toster." Because we all have to deal with these things, they should not ever surprise us. I don't want to be amazed by my OS, I want it to get the fuck out of the way and let me work. Don't surprise me, don't amaze me, DO WHAT I EXPECT.
No, MS should fire back another volley, and make a default-on setting that prevents most of the common tracking techniques.
Personally, I have decided that I like project wonderful's method of using a reverse auction for the space. The winning bid pays for the time it appears, and chooses sites that they think the viewers will find them relevant. No tracking, just "If you read Girl Genius, you might also like my steampunky jewelry."
your experience is better then mine. we got these mac minis at work. nothing but freezes and hangups for the past three months. Never mind that some of the applications we use don't work on a mac (or the port is so bad, it's unusable), so we are doing most of our work in windows in a VM anyway. I find it's UI behavior random, at best. I have done everything I can think of to try to get these things bearable, finally upgraded to 16G and the most responsive SSD I could find. It has helped a little, but still worse experience then my machine from 5 years ago.
can't unsee a collapsable colander every time they see that satellite?
When I was a tyke my grandmother had one, and I used to play with it sometimes (as we were want to do, since this was before everyone had a supercomputer to play with). So it's been that to me since the first time I saw it.
This patent was NOT invalidated, the judge ruled the technique was sufficiently different to not be covered. This actually strengthens the patent a little, as it makes it hard to argue that it is over-broad.
I have mixed feelings over this, really. On the one hand, it's a really good ruling. This technique is not the same one APPL described, in fact, it's a bit more versatile.
On the other hand, supporting this ruling feels almost like betraying my anti-software-patent values.
maybe because we have been using a filled battery to represent the fullness of a battery, oh since before the iphone existed?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Palm-m505.jpg (note the battery, and that this image was uploaded before the iphone was released. So, why did apple need to steal the appearance from palm?)
as to why green, it's indicated safety since atleast the 1800s:

Of course, Apple likes to steal symbols from railroads, dont they?
why would they just not revert to the "predsavowed" behavior?
Does google plan on telling people which links they need to disavow, or are they left to just guess?
Am I the only want finding recent changes to google (like silently changeing my search terms without a way for me to say "yes I really am looking for the variable for "Present Working Directory" in UNIX, rather then "password" in my search term")?
I think you are overly optimistic.
The issue with touch computing hasn't been the technology for some time, it's that it really doesn't add anything to most tasks. It's useful for the fondle-slab form-factor for space reasons, but that form-factor is just not how we do most computing. I do not foresee any changes that will alter that.
Time will tell.
Why compair? Both have highly respectable accomplishments, and should be honored. We should remember both, and stand them up as examples for young ladies who want to pursue math and science.
Now if we can just properly ostracize the bad apples who insist on using inaccurate gender stereotypes at conferences (I'm looking at you, RMS).
You are correct there is nothing new here, but SHUT UP. As long as DRM is patented, it can be stupid-expensive to use in a 3D printer. Hell, I want to nominate these guys for some kinda award for making efforts to prevent the inclusion of DRM in 3D printers!
Why are people upset about this?
There are many simpler solutions. Like setting a time limit on copyrights, requiring a "nuisance fee" to keep them registered (or have them fall in the public domain).
Having a company give an *nudge-nudge, wink-wink* effort to find the rightful copyright holders (who's best intrest to not be able to find them) is just not a good approach. So, no, I'm not going to ignore the horrific flaws when there are MUCH better options out there.
That's basicly what they do, except they do it the first time you load the OS. The exact wording of the box in question is:
"Settings
Express settings
You can customize the following settings or choose express settings. If you choose express settings, your PC will occasionally send info to Microsoft and will:
* Automatically install important and recommended updates.

Seems pretty obvious that if I hit "express' it's going to turn on DNT.
the guys at Lawrence Livermore Lab are running Lustre on ZFS on Linux now. while they only distribute source one of their reps said yesterday they do not see a license incompatibility. I don't think I believe him, but as long as it's sources and not binaries, both requirements can be met.
Also if said individual is known for the "holier then thou" shtik. If you are supporting laws declaring similar acts to be "deviant sexual behavior" or some such, that does happen to be in the public interest.
(I'm not familiar with Mr Mosely's politics, so you would have to enlighten me if he falls into this category.)
You anger at... whatever... appears to be making you unable to form coherent thoughts.
There are a couple of problems such as:
1) Why shouldn't I be able to sneer at popular opinion if I want to? Popular opinion says Eastenders and X Factor is worth my time to watch. I disagree.
2) In the concept of reporting "things that happen" where does "things I wish had happened" come into it?
Please go away and sit quietly and have a little think about what you're actually trying to say and it might make some sort of sense."
You are free to sneer at whatever you want, and while I may (or may not) disagree with said sneering, I have no overt objection to it. So please, sneer away!
What I do vehemently object to, is being taxed to pay you to do said sneering. Either find someone who WANTs to pay you to sneer, or get a real job and fund your sneering yourself. In any event, I'd rather not have my options be "pay you for it" or "go to jail"
I don't know about California, but the power bills I have seen from other US states have a power charge and a delivery charge. Presumably the feed-in retail price is the power charge which does NOT pay for the distribution cost. It DOES pay for generation capacity, up-keep, and profit margin. Which, the home-owner should be just as entitled to as any other power vendor.
Distribution with Ameren is about .121 USD/kWh in IL (this may be different now, I last looked about 4 years ago). This is paid to them in any area they serve REGARDLESS of if they are providing power or not. Power itself can be purchased from a number of vendors (depending on region, some municipalities have power as a municipal service). If the power company in question's power is worth x/kWh WITHOUT delivery, then surely Bob's PV covered house's power is also worth the same amount. Anything else is just a scam.
As a vi user, I welcome you!
Wait, what? Oh, that was supposed to be some kind of put down huh... interesting.
besides, those shortcuts look a bit more like "Esc Meta Alt Ctrl Shift"... I always said it just needed a boot loader!
