Sway: Microsoft's new Office app doesn't have an Undo function

Hi Wreck

I think they got the name wrong...

Perhaps, given the lack of control over formatting and even the lack of an undo function, this new application should really be called "Pray".

Was Nokia's Elop history's worst CEO?

Hi Wreck

Hardly

One only has to look at Nortel as a start. Then there's DEC, Compaq, MCI etc. etc. etc.

Microsoft WINDOWS 10: Seven ATE Nine. Or Eight did really

Hi Wreck

Re: it's binary...

No, 8 is not a number in base 8. It could be base 9 though. But then again, it might just be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us

None the less, I wonder when they are going to release Windows Mountain Lion?

Look! Look at me! We do wearables, mobile stuff too! says Intel today

Hi Wreck

Third time's the charm?

I don't quite think that Intel has figured out the customer wants it's own system on a chip, and not what Intel says will be the system on the chip. Time will tell.

Except that most of those sites running IIS are parked domains. If one scrolls down the page a tad, one sees that the line for IIS for active sites and million busiest sites is sloping downwards. Nginx seems to be gaining share.

Dart 1.1 bullseyes JavaScript performance in latest benchmarks

Hi Wreck

Re: JS is the new ASM?

Don't confuse strong typing with dynamic binding. Strong typing just means all type errors are detected, which doesn't necessarily mean at compile time.

Loose typing, while making code easy to write, is a pain in the arse for reliable programs.

Re: LDS

Intel machines translate most instructions into a more RISC-like internal architecture. Note that the L1 instruction cache stores pre-decoded instructions. This is a hint. It is truly amazing that a register starved architecture can perform so well. Kudos to the Intel engineers.

Get lost, fanbois: Nokia pulls HERE Maps from Apple's App Store

Hi Wreck

Re: Apple maps - could be worse

Unfortunately, the mapping data for Apple maps still sucks (blame Tom-Tom?). The new bridge over the St Lawrence river on Autoroute 30, which has been open for over a year, still hasn't shown up. Apple maps will want you to go across the crumbling Champlain bridge instead.

Internet Explorer 11 BREAKS Google, Outlook Web Access

Hi Wreck

Re: Doesn't necessarily mean it's Microsoft's fault

Apparently, Microsoft does indeed test their browser, at least on their own web sites. None the less, they still ship it despite "also making life difficult for users of Microsoft's own Outlook Web Access webmail product."

Left hand, meet right hand.

Crufty old machines.

A nice man from AECL came by one day to talk about the nuclear industry. Essentially, keeping the old stuff running is far far cheaper than swapping in new hardware. New stuff means an extended shutdown and recertification. This is not cheap at all, especially the recertification process. So if some bit of hardware beaks, remanufacture the part.
