WTF?

Which October?

Thought it was supposed to be this October, or have Microsoft postponed it again?

@Steve Roper

Why is that any time an article mentions Ubuntu then everyone starts going on about their code names? It's not as if they're the only ones - Debian uses characters from Toy Story and I've no idea where Fedora gets its from.

Why when a computer is listed as running Linux, do they not go in to more detail? It would be like advertising that a computer came with Windows without mentioning whether it was 2000, XP, Vista etc.

Ubuntu version

I've had the Ubuntu version of this laptop for about a month now and really like it. Not that keen on Evolution as it doesn't seem to be as configurable as KMail which I could install, but don't fancy installing a load of KDE dependencies.

It would've been nice for Tosh to have kept the same specs for the two different machines, but you can't have everything. Did try emailing to ask if they would refund for the unused XP licence, but never got a reply.

An idea

This has got me thinking, if I was to buy a Toshiba NB100-12A with XP (£273 at Comet) which has 120GB drive and 1GB memory instead of the NB100-11R running Ubuntu (£245 at Comet) and only has an 80GB drive and 512MB memory, I could return XP for a refund and install Ubuntu Netbook remix on it.

Not the first time

This isn't the first time they've re-used old numbers, my wife has got a Nokia 6220 classic - which has been used before without the 'classic' - can get very confusing when trying to find accessories such as headphone adaptors and chargers that fit.
