Sony implicates Anonymous in PlayStation Network hack

The Fuzzy Wotnot
Happy

Not quite

Saying they are calling in the feds and some "experts", will keep the shareholders appeased while Sony USA tries it's hardest to limit the damage this cack is most likely doing to the share price.

Remember in today's world it's all about the share price, nothing else matters, all praise the almighty dollar.

The Fuzzy Wotnot

Well...

I think if you put the Daily Mail down and took off the blinkers, you'd find a massive spread of different types out there "hacking" ( both in the in the Hollywood and true IT sense ). While quite a few I'm sure feel they are lashing out at a world that doesn't "get them", a larger number lead perfectly normal lives often doing far more fun and entertaining things with a healthy circle of real world friends and doing jobs for a living you'd never even think they would do, some not even remotely IT related.

So why don't you just go away quietly until you've expanded your perception a little more, eh?

The Fuzzy Wotnot
Pint

Well said sir!

Anonymous is simply a bunch of basement dwellers who spend way, way too much time trawling 4-chan for the want of getting a fucking life!

The Fuzzy Wotnot
Happy

Or....

....it was placed by very, very pissed off IT admins fed up with getting it in the neck from a management that probably wouldn't listen in the first place, when the techs complained about pisspoor security and were told by said management, to shut the fuck up and get back to coding and whatever else you IT people do down in that basement!

Cell site data sinks into black hole of local bureaucracy

The Fuzzy Wotnot

Yeah, but...

Yeah it's complicated but you can bucket loads of premade sets of code to do it and even ready made utils. Heck, I even got hold of a CPAN mod to do it in Perl and wrote a 5 line script for my old man to use on his PC with his bird watching antics!

UK.gov would pay to have benefit claimants' tattoos erased

The Fuzzy Wotnot
WTF?

FFS! Muppets!

So I'm so fucking stupid I got "MIM" or "GRIM RAEPER" misspelled tattoos inked on my face when I was 17 and now I'm 35 and the Gov want to get of my arse and start earning, someone else has to pay to have them removed so I can get a job?! FUCK OFF!!

Tough luck, you'll have to wear long sleeves, gloves and balaclavas to cover the tats when you go to the interviews!

But you're happy to give Ole Beardy more cash for the extra bandwidth and the kudos/bragging rights to state to all and sundry how "fat your pipe is" ( ooerr Misssus! )?

Anything above 10MB is overkill in my book unless your a) an avid gamer who needs as close to zero latency as possible and loads of updates and downloads for said games or b) a thieving git sitting sucking half the media content from "da tubes" via torrents!

I have 10MB VM line and I probably shift a max of 50MB a week, if that! I give Ole Beardy the least amount possible and wait until they bump me up to a faster speed on a free upgrade!

Killing time

When I'm bored I often port scan my local subnet on the other side of my net connect router. You come across quite a few interesting items, open routers, business webservers ( running IIS ) with ports wide open. However the oddest thing is the quite large number of people who seem to have connected printers directly to their internet connections! Very odd.

Bin Laden corpse pics will be malware, says FBI

The Fuzzy Wotnot
Happy

Well..

I'm not a conspiracy nutter but it's no big stretch of the imagination to wonder if the US Gov have been a bit naughty and not told us the whole truth.

They've had a few days, so they've grabbed some OBL look-a-like off the streets of some back-of-beyond shithole, stuck a bullet through his head, taken a few blurry/grainy shots of the corpse and they'll publish them as the proof. Meanwhile OBL is being gently requested to handover the info to the U.S. under torture.

FFS, we're still arguing about shootings from grassy knolls and dead film stars by the name of Marilyn, this is just another story that will run and run and provide endless cash for book publishers for years to come.

Anyone remember when the VHS boxsets came out? There was a gold and silver edition, FFS! Not to mention the Our Price (remember them? ) VHS boxset. How many DVD box sets have there been since then too?!

Give a rest George, you've got enough money, how about getting off your arse making some genuine original SciFi fare? Something genuinely new and exciting? If not, then how about remaking THX-1138? I don't like remakes as a rule but I reckon that could really benefit from the modern makeover.

Title, telltail! Tittle tattle!

You know this, I know this, 99% of those on here know it. The problem starts out there with the other 99.999999% of the internet users who don't have a fucking clue that even posting your real name can be a bad idea, let alone those dodgy snaps you and you mates posted of you and that hunky Greek waiter you befriended last year in Kos!

If a few people listen to Assange and think just a little bit more before using FB, then it's helped to make the world a little better.

Well said sir!

The reason I refuse to use FB, it's just too easy to drop a bombshell and let loose some nasty secret you'd rather keep to yourself.

My Missus uses it to keep in touch with some colleagues and some family, but she's extremely careful how she uses it and what she puts up, she's aware of the risks and often advises others that the least amount of info you put up the better.

Natty Narwahl: Ubuntu marine mammal not fully evolved

The Fuzzy Wotnot

Bloody awful!

I updated from 10.10 and 11.04 keeps crashing and as I have an Nvidia graphics chipset I get the phantom "white windows" bug, maxing a window suddenly blanks it white, resize to get the contents back. Some apps when started from command line, like rdesktop, have no borders and with no running apps bar anymore you can't kill it. I restarted without Unity and things weren't much better. Gone back to 10.10 until this blows over.

Seen lots of forum posts about people dumping Ubuntu over this and checking Fedora and other distros, Canonical need to get some damage limitation done very quickly.

Whomever it was, did you have to down this, after all that effort? If you don't like it, simply pass along.

I completely agree with the sentiment, we've rocketed at 1000mph into the glorious light of the new world techno economy, sadly those are in charge of the rocket are not engineers but money men. If the techies were in charge of the rocket we wouldn't have half the cockups we have, we wouldn't be forced to cut corners to keep the shareholders happy.

"hardly a crime against humanity"

Nope it isn't, it's plain and blatant fucking stupidity by a huge tech company that should know better how to look after their customers info.

Sorry but this and the other things Sony have done, prove beyond all doubt they don't give a rat's wotnot about their customers so long as the green is rolling in and the shareholders are happy. Although I can imagine the next Sony shareholders meeting should be a bloody good laugh!!!

Apple Filevault

In the case of Apple's Filevault the "encrypted drive" is a virtual disk container, once you log out it starts the clean up cycle that de-frags the container's internal contents and remove all the rubbish, that's an extremely I/O intensive task. I have sometimes sat and waited 30 mins for my machine to shut down after a heavy session of moving lots of stuff about.

The Fuzzy Wotnot

Pricey

They seem like the perfect answer for getting a bit more life out of my laptop but at £350+ for 256GB that's a little pricey for a laptop I paid £600 for 2 years ago. If I can hang on for another 12 months, then hopefully they will have the consumer 1TB SSDs out and this will start to push the 256GB down to more reasonable prices.

I'd love one but just to expensive to justify right now.

How sick and twisted do you have to be to send death threats to a teenager who's not actually done anything that offensive to anyone? Some fucked-in-the-head nutcase thinks it would be a right good laugh to scare the shit out of some kid who's probably not handling all the attention that well.
