CSC axes doctor support software in the UK

FAIL

Its about time that csc stopped providing services to government departments, as their an outdated company that doesnt know how to deal in the real world. Their services are no better than any government department, and my many dealings with them over the years, have created frustration after frustration after frustration.

I had dealings with them when they were the company behind the national grid electric and gas systems. Their systems have always been outdated and slow. They used to take 48hrs for just a password reset, and their systems were always going down. The staff their were always as helpful as they could be, but they as a company were too big for their own good. Upgrades and change implementations used to take forever to go through. You would request a change, and by the time they were ready to implement it, it would be 2 years gone.

When their systems go down, they seem to be in no hurry to get them back up again, it was common occurence for the systems to be down for 48hrs or more for critical systems, trying to get an update from them was like pulling teeth. When this is for a system that monitors and assigns engineers to emergency gas leaks, then this is unacceptable. The engineers would then go on site, and couldnt get the gis maps up for underground gas pipe layouts, yet their company would never take responsibility for the fault.

Had the same problems with them with the nhs. They seem to be stuck in the late 1990's with their procedures, software, and implementation and need to progress

Stealing AMDS hardware name now

So now they cant even come up with their own name for a socket now. AMD have been using this name since Jan, but as far as i can tell, its not the same product. You would think they would check their material thoroughly before they use it. I have lost count how many inaccurate comments they have made in their keynote, that at best means they havent researched their material thoroughly, which is inexcusable for a company predominately dealing with marketing, and at worst means that they have blatantly lied about specs and used other company's codenames for parts to sell the iphone , which as far as im concerned is unethnical. Its funny how Nokias launch was the other week and predominately was about their camera tech, and how they could take photos in low light, and anti shake, and Apples speech covers the same, yet didnt even have any demonstrations of these two components.

As far as i can tell, apples announcement is just a mish mash of other companys announcements.

Re: Mac sales

This is a pointless story, it doesnt include all windows devices. I see no mention in here of Windows CE (pretty much every satnav device on the market, Every Point of Sale device on the market, 60% of all Car code readers sold for car diagnostics. i could go on and on and on) windows mobile figures etc, yet all ios and osx devices are mentioned. Count these figures in, and i think youll find their not doing as bad as you think.

No Platform Tickets????

what do you mean there is no such thing as a platform ticket. You can buy one at bognor station. It costs 10p to get on the platform. Other train stations also do them. see http://www.southwest.railsaver.co.uk/southwest.htm . It mentions platform tickets. Although the automated machines dont sell them, you can get a ticket from the ticked booths.

BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots

Internet went down for 1 company i got called to!!!!!!

Lol, I went to a company this morning where their internet went down after this update. BT DefinateIy didnt think this trhrough.

For people who are using an internal ip set of 10.*.*.* and have lost the internet, the update caused the subnet 10.*.*.* ip range to be set up for the BT Wireless Hotspot. BT Site says the following:-

I am trying to select the subnet 10.x.x.x IP range and have received an error on my Graphical User Interface (GUI)

Even if Openzone is disabled, the subnet 10.x.x.x IP range settings remain, therefore it is advisable to use an alternative IP range or follow the steps below to obtain the subnet 10.x.x.x IP range:

I cant be bothered to paste the rest, but you get the general idea. Wonder how many companies have lost internet access, or are about to.

Some muppet definately didnt think this through

Daft Problem

I once had a user call our helpdesk, who spoke to a junior on the desk. He spent about 20 mins trying to sort a problem out with someones laptop, which wouldnt accept any new passwords that he reset from our end.

After about 2 mins i realised that something strange was going on with his keyboard. I asked him to read out the keys from left to right. It turned out one of his colleagues had popped off the keys and changed the order of them on the keyboard, so it wasnt qwerty any more. I Found it totally Hilarious!!!!!!!

Another time, one of the companies engineers called me whilst he was Driving. He phoned to complain the gprs wasnt working on the laptop. Whilst on the phone, i told him to pull over so i could help him with the problem. He swore at me, threw the laptop onto the passenger seat in the van. The passenger window was open. Next thing i heard was oh F***!!!!. I asked him what happened. He replied it bounced on the seat, and went straight out the van window!!!! (must have thrown it extremely hard!!!!)) He was suspended for 2 weeks. Luckily enough for him, the laptops were Panasonic Toughbooks. It survived the falling out the window, and just ended up with a few scrapes and scuffs. Luckily there was nothing behind when he was driving!!
