unsurprising
The Wii, much as it might be sniffed at for being casual, is something new.
I have yet to see anything console exclusive come out that really makes me ache to drop the fuckload of cash on a proper 360 /ps3 (the base models cost the same as the wii, but the base models are for suckers).
the Wii brought with it an actually new gaming experience. If I want to play platformers, there are plenty out there for my xbox or ps2. If I want to play tony hawk, i can get it for my xbox or ps2.
only with the wii can I wave my arms around like a wiitard and watch my onscreen character slash his sword through bad guys. love it. when the three consoles were being teased three years ago I made up my mind that it was only the Wii for Mii. It was the only one that brought something new to the table.
If they would just figure out some !@#$ing way for me to download tracks for Rock Hero, now...
Also, minor nitpick to the article -- it lists the Microsoft XBox. Should specify the XBox 360. There is another console on there from the XBox's generation, so it can't simply be assumed.
I personally still find it hilarious that the ps2 is selling in a robust fashion. For one thing, who the hell does NOT already own one?
