PS3 to go 3D in 2010, says Sony

TonyZ
WTF?

@ RegisterFail

Always a Microsoft fan boy in the bunch... but never one armed with facts.

FACT: In February 2008 Toshiba abandoned the HD DVDformat, announcing it would no longer develop or manufacture HD DVD players or drives.

FACT: The HD DVD Promotion Group was dissolved on March 28, 2008.

FACT: Microsoft is going BluRay.

FACT: HD DVD lost because it was the inferior spec.

All I'm gonna say is...

"Electric plane" + "Soldier" + "No Armor" = "Dead Soldier"

or...

"Electric Plane" + "Armor" = "Brick"

Wish DARPA would quit wasting our money.

WTF?

Thumbs down to "The Foundation"

Quote- "...but one year into the project it made the fundamental decision to switch kernels - from Ubuntu to Fedora - and adopt new tools, graphical user interface and middleware."

Ok, So the "Linux Guru's" switched from one pussy flavor of Linux to another... WTF? Oh WAIT! I know... Fedora included some "canned" support for a device Ubuntu didn't.

What happened to going to kernel.org, downloading a kernel and compiling it to your system? What happened to writing your own tools? I could go on...

Point is, If the "Guru's" are just grabbing at DISTRO's, they are doing just that... Might as well just switch to windows mobile... Bloatware is Bloatware... at least choose the most "polished" piece of shit if you're going to deploy shit.

Starting out with a lightweight "generic" kernel and a GUI like E-17's mobile flavor would make a great start... basing your tech on something mediocre that was based on something good is well, mediocre at best.

No one mentioned...

Which console has the ability to install a "Third-Party" Operating System, plug in a standard USB keyboard and mouse, an HP or Epson printer, and enjoy a "FULL BLOWN PC" ?

It was for this I chose the console I did. When I'm in the mood I can play UT2004, Doom3, Quake 4, ET, Bioshock, and CRYSIS... Sure, I could have dropped the $400 on a new graphics card to play CRYSIS & Bioshock on the PC, then I could have bought the "console" versions of games I all ready owned... Hell, CRYSIS isn't even supposed to work on a "next gen" console, and I admit there is no DX10 for the OS I installed on the console, so it's not "perfect" , but it plays beautifully with everything on high.

Alas, I'm sure if this ability to run a full blown OS gets popular enough, you can guess which console will re-brand their desktop OS and charge through the nose for it... Goodbye blue screen, hello red-ring!

I don't know the status of "standard broadcast" over there, but here all broadcast will be cut off in 5 months... I see no mention of HDTV reception on the device review... So...

Mozilla slots pr0n safe mode into Firefox 3.1

ABEnd?

It's the IT in me that has to ask...

What's "porn" mode gonna do for you when the browser abends and the "cleanup" routine never executes?

I could go on and on, but the truth is browsing "untrusted content" of any form is and will always be unsafe in nature and the only way to be "safe" is to boot from a "live CD" or Thumbdrive which only writes to RAM or just stay off the damn net.

I like the bit about how this "feature" *was* slated for a previous release. It WAS because it's shit...

But I guess now that all the idiots "think" it's a good idea and ...all the other browsers are doing it...

It's a well known FACT that IE is not broken, it's Google maps and ALL THE OTHER WEBSITES that do not display properly that need re-written.

How can I run Windows apps on a Linux Acer Aspire One?

TonyZ
Linux

Windows apps on Linux

There are 3 programs to run "Windows programs" on linux Crossover Office, Wine, and Cedega.

Crossover is for business applications like Adobe Photoshop & MS Office.

Cedega is geared twards gaming.

Wine handles everything else and is free...

Sometimes one of those 3 may work better than the one that specializes in a particular application set, it's more about trial and error.

Each one of those apps has a "Supported Applications" list and last I checked AUTODESK anything was not on them. I own ACAD r10, 11, 13, 2005 & Architectural Desktop... NONE of them fly on Linux.

There are tricks that can be used such as loading the native program DLL's but I never got that deep into it, I just dual boot. I have one 30GB partition for WinXP, Visual Studio 2008, AutoCAD, 3DS, and MAYA and a 60GB partition for Linux. When I need to use AutoCAD I boot into XP. The beauty part here is the XP partition NEVER has to see the internet. When I need to uplodad a file to a client, I boot into linux and access the XP partition.

There are Linux CAD packages out there and they import .DXF files rather well and for the most part are like "old" autocad as far as the interface and commands goes.

Good Luck.
