Standards-obsessed boss ignored one, and suffered all night for his sin

Dr. Heinrich Backhausen

Hmmm, as the processor AS400 was build by Mother Blue, I suppose the disc racks were also by the same Mother. And the Installation Manual by this company is know for very, very detailed installation guides (e.g. they tell you to way how one is supposed to fasten the screws), which explicatly show how to have the correct sheets under the machines, depending on the size of the machines.

Microsoft's big bet on helium-3 fusion explained

The mysterious Megajoule and the eternal 20 year period

Hmm, Megajoule sounds big.. But it gets very humble, when one remembers that 1 kWh is 1000 * 3600 J (W= J/s, or J = W * s) = 3,6 MJ.

And: for nearly 50n years I've time to time discussions with colleagues who work in the field of fusion: and it is alway 20 years to a running fusion reactor

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz? Detroit waits for my order, you'd better make amends

Murphy....

Somewhere in the two Volumes of Murphy's la, there are two of the most important here:

(a) It work's if you plug it in.

(b) An expert is anyone from out of town

Why is the printer spouting nonsense... and who on earth tried to wire this plug?

Dr. Heinrich Backhausen

Hmm, normally the obligatory RCD should have tripped!

BTW, with normal supply from the energy provider - at least here in Germany- the delivery from external ist T-NCS: Terre -Neutre Combiné-Separeé: 4-conductors (Earth and Neutral Combined) up to the user distribution, here bridge to local earth (Building [basement], water pipes, gas pipes etc.), than 5-conductors after the RCD. This way there should be no real difference between Neutral and Earth concerning noise etc., as long as the RCD didn't trip.

Old but useful rules

Hmmm,

in the old days when experimental ory rule, started entering the streets, there was the mandatoty

rule in some areas, that a bod swaying a bell had to run beforehand of it, just to warn everyone of the approaching danger.

Maybe Tesla , i.e. His Godlike Muskness takes up the idea??!!!

P.S.: Assistance systems that work quite well are around for long, for instance AMG models (which Teslascan't keep from easily following them on german highways ;-) :-) with a well functioning Distronic, these days in overhauled version in standard Mercedes. So what is the problem you have , Your Godlike Muskness??

We all hate Word docs and PDFs, but have they ever led you to being hit with 32 indictments?

Dr. Heinrich Backhausen

Well, that is the meaning of PDF: don't change. Coming from a deep UNIX (not this kiddies' OS Linux),

I'm used to the Interleaf suite of document processing (as opposed to poor/pure word processing like Word). Acrobate Professional allows some editing (sorry, I didn't use for some years, so I might not be uptodate). So, if if somebody doesn't keep his editabel version: SORRY!! It's a little bit like 'Top Gear': you are Jeremy Clarkson or ....

New booze guidelines: We'd rather you didn't enjoy yourselves

I'm in France for a short holyday. I'm wondering: why are still living French running around here and obviously staying quite well and healthy? Wine is standard, e.g. you go to a small resto, bistro ..., for lunch, there's a "formule" taken by most people (workers, office workers etc.), containing half a bottle of wine per person..... But maybe it's this other, very condemnable pleasure, which counters the effect of booze, you know, this four-leg thing...

Or looking back on Germany: in Bavaria, beer is not considered booze at all but a base nutrient, no joking here. In Munich you'll have the 1st Mass at about 10...11 am, with the Weisswurst (sausage) which has to be eaten before midday. Not to speak about the drinking habits in Westfalia...

LOHAN's stirring motto: Ad Astra Tabernamque

Dr. Heinrich Backhausen

Hmm, it is - quite logical - accusative, so it is 'Ad astras tabernamque.,' assuming that the plural, stars, is meant. The singular, star, would be simple astram

Bill Gates offends Koreans after sticking hand down trousers

Rude manners

Well, in the west I'd consider someone who gives a handshake with his other hand doing what-so-ever in a pocket at least as very unpolite.

But Bill Gates is American, o.k., Americans are rude and not civilized, we know that.

But e.g. HRH Prince Philip does the same, right.Well, he's excupated too, as his family stems from some german nobility, which in general is known for rude manners.

Plague of US preachers falsely claim to be Navy SEALs

Dr. Heinrich Backhausen
WTF?

Is being a Navy seal a honour?

Well, in the US it maybe, but in the civilized world they only can be seen as payed killers (the US administration pays them, doesn't it?), like mercenaries or the good ole boys from Palermo. And in the later world - which, when I look at the track of your article, isn't yours, Lewis - there is only one instance, which decides guilty or not: the court, its judges and juries. And civilized people won't accept the penalty of death as anything but barbaric.

Having said that and being a antireligious fundamentalist, I wonder why especially christian priests are so inclined to pose as killers.

American man too fat for execution

Thumb Down

Disgusting

Sorry, this discussion is just digusting, immoral, unethic just ist the penlty of death. No society that wants to be seen as civilzed can do murder on prisoners as a legal form of punishment.

The rest archaic, religious revenge!

And discussions about what may be alternative methods to murder the prisoner are not a sign of intellectual sophistication but of cynic misanthropy.
