Laptops to blame for Qantas jet plunge?

alan
Flame

This is total idiocy

regarding wireless mouse guy.....

considering the range of run of the mill wireless mice, the laptop guy must have been sitting right next to the autopilot computer in question when he apparently caused the aircraft to turn.

And the autopilot must have had his usb dongle attatched.

And he must have clicked on "Turn". And then "Apply". And then "I will restart my computer later (not recommended)" when windoze detected the wireless mouse that obviously works fine even though the os has decided that it doesnt and as a result the system needs to be restarted.

The blame for these quirks should be placed squarely on the airline / computer manufacturer. Its a pathetic excuse for malfunctioning software / drunk pilot.

When you think about how many different types of radio waves / infrared stuff / bebo extracts that we are beaming around in the atmosphere, then it would be just as credible to blame the autopilot malfunctions on the 6:00 AM showing of Quincy on STV.

just got a new laptop.....

with 4gb ddr2, dual core 2GHZ Intel celery-derivative, 256mb ATI dedicated graphics which can easily run gears of war + crysis but........

it came with Fista Home Premium preloaded - and it struggles with teh bubbly Aeros.

That's the first time I've ever used it, being a Tux fanboi myself - I just thought I'd mention that if I were the CEO of Microsoft, I'd deny all knowledge of that piece of shit aswell.

Some things were meant to be forgotten......

one of those things is Micro$haft

Secret Windows 7 screens leaked?

@herby

herby - i would have said that if i didnt have the presence of mind to read it first :)

I also agree completely with the super-comp-specs argument, which is there for all to see if you look on the recommended specs of any new-ish (also released on a next-gen console) pc game, there are usually 2 sets of specs - one for xp, and considerably higher ones for vista.

Crysis wants 3.2GHZ on vista, but only 2.5 on xp? 1GB ram for xp but 1.5 on vista? Whoever said hardware was cheap!? DDR2 800 isnt that cheap......neither is a shiny new 3 GHZ dual core!!

@solomon grundy - I would have a job without MS, I work for an open source company. In fact micro$hit not being there would make my job easier. And my mum doesn't have a basement.

Wasn't SyNAPSE the bad-guy's ultimate tool for world-domination?

open source FTW :)

oh and one other thing - my cat is totally convinced that it already OWNS the world, and everyone in it, to the extent that he doesn't even need to convince anyone else.

Is it really a good idea to use that as a basis for evil army AI cat-brained killing thingies?

UK.gov dishes out £19m for comms snoop data silos

alan
Unhappy

@Craig

It kinda (for me anyways) dates back to the Phorm scare of earlier this year - they were collecting informations about ppl's activity on the web and then using that info to target ads at them - is was a stealth trial they conducted on unsuspecting BT customers.....

I suppose just saying "UK.gov + ability to spy on joe blogg's net usage + post-9/11 paranoia == increased - snoop-spending" pretty much sums it up.

and 19million could buy ALOT of 1TB hard drives XD

PILA FTW!!

If were already under suspicion of being terrorists because we make phonecalls / use the internet, why don't we just start actually BEING terrorists? That way, we could fight back against the oppression of the infidels occupying our holy motherland and erase the need to spend all this money - they can just assume any internet user is a high-level al-Qa'ida bomb maker.

'mon the People's Interweb Liberation Army!!

whos with me?
