Microsoft extends Red-Ring-of-Death cover to fresh Xbox fault

No Xbox for Me

I never got a message from my Xbox 360 and after delicate use with lots of ventilation I got the RRoD cold. And after 2 RRoDs the video just went blank with sound. But after squeezing it while doing the towel trick it was good again for about a week. I went Spain for Xmas and came back home and boom it's dead. I tried calling MSFT and they said it wasn't covered. So I looked online for ways to fix it and I found some sites, but now that pretty much did it. Now all I have left is a Playstation 3 which is wicked but I do miss Orange Box on Xbox 360. I have a Nintendo Wii that I got for my Bday but it just sits there unless I'm really bored or drunk and I play Wii sports batting challenge.

All Green Here

I was using Entourage when the update popped up and after it downloaded it installed without any issues. Here is my program version Microsoft Entourage 2008 for Mac, version 12.1.17(090302), Last Installed Update: 12.1.17. So no problems here, I'm using a late 2006 iMac 24" with Leopard 10.5.6.

Mac OS 10.5.6 problems? Apple suggests shampoo

Update was a Breeze

Really what kind of problems, cause I was able to successfully update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 without a hitch. I downloaded, well Software Update downloaded the 190MB version of the udpate, the 360MB is always an option for those that have issues. You can also attempt to re-apply 10.5.5 and try 10.5.6 and see if that works.

Older Macs R Better

I don't think I'll purchase Apple products again after 2007, my next purchase if I can find one is the older Macbooks late 2007 ones a 15inch. Anything newer then that seems to have some issues. My Mac right now is a 24inch white Late 2006 iMac and I love it it's awsome and I've had no issues whats so ever. It was made back in the day when Apple had good QA, it's not one with the screen problems either I checked the serials on it.

Safari 3.2

I installed it after on my Late 2006 iMac and so far so good. In fact I have been playing around with it testing it's phising abilities on phistank.com . The only thing I've noticed that's different then normal, well normal since I haven't seen this is on sites like Yahoo and Microsoft (Homtail) I've noticed a two tone blue beach ball instead of colour beach ball when processing web clicks on these pages, but nothing crashes. So I don't know...

Actually Japan has the death penalty, they still hang people there, so if convicted she might face the virtual gallows.

Run Mac OS X on a PC

Good for the curious

I used to run OS X86 like this since it was first released with the "deadmoo" image. I then did it with the 10.4.8 Intel DVD, and then the Leopard 10.5 Disc. And after some trials and errors I finally got it to perfectly work without having to use to many altered kexts; I used a total of 4. That gave me some good insight in to OS X which I haven't used before play around with it for about a year, then I made the switch to a real Mac by purchasing an iMac and I haven't looked back. My old OSx86 machine is still there with 10.5.4 in plastic in a box. I like the project very good if you want so high end hardware with OS X capabilities. But I got tired of the wires and opted for the all-in-one solution that the iMac is.

My Config

My setup was:

Intel Core2Duo 1.86Ghz

Asrock Conroe945G-DVI

Intel GMA950 w/fixed 64MB

ALC888

RTL Gigabit LAN (8118B I think)

2x1GB 667mhz DDR2

250GB WD 7200rpm HDD (SATA)

Pioneer DVR-110 (shows as Superdrive on OS X)

20in LCD

Built for $250 pretty good since I paid over $1300+ for my 24in iMac.

Everything works out of the box except the onboard GMA950 & the ALC888 audio. But those can be fixed with a kexts.

MS: Xbox will not go Blu

My Two Cents

Microsoft is doine what it should be doing sticking to gaming, that's what the Xbox 360 does and according to sales and some game reviewers it's doing it well. I have both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and I prefer games on the 360, and I like watching movies on the PS3 as I find that it plays some DVDs that aren't available for rent on Blu-ray better than my DVD player or the 360. As for HD well I watch hockey on CBC HD over-the-air, and some other shows on the OTA stations I get: CBC, CTV, & Global.

Bluray Tears

Yeah 1080p what ever and such, with lots of people getting OTA, and still renting DVDs I don't see a good future for the Blu-ray franchise.

1. Profiles, profiles, profiles, what people are not told when they're about to purchase that $199.99 player from some retailer.

2. Blockbuster rentals, well I don't know about the states, but up here in Canada there aren't many discs to rent.

3. Next DVD format I don't think so, the next DVD format is DVD and will remain DVD. Downloads are good but they won't overtake rentals simply because of the bandwith it takes, and lots of ISPs are begining to cap downloads.

4. LCDs 1080p/i 720 garbage, your average consumer doesn't know what those things mean, people that work at Best Buy don't even know what that means. People bought a newer digital tv after having an analog one for over 15years and they won't be jumping the boat for the same thing in 1080p they don't need it not to say the premiums you would have to pay to take full advantage of these sets, especially in these upcoming economic hard times.

Proper HD=Watching the movie while it's being filmed

Blu-ray IS preferred by Hollywood and Michael Bay, but they don't speak for the millions that don't really care for it and have shown that by not buying into it:

Lol Steve could either hate or like this. People could use OSx86 to experiment and get hooked then purchase a Mac or could fully just find a substitute.

Web browsers face crisis of security confidence

Cristhian Mejia

Internet Explorer will emerge winner.

Mark my words Internet Explorer shall emerge as the dominant secure browser because Microsoft is pouring tons of money into its development. Along with reports from security firms, and honey pot computers the software giant has the programmers not to say the money to make its browser top notch. Firefox is at the moment safer then Internet Explorer 7 but the Mozilla Foundation is just that, a foundation that requires volunteers and donations. As for Apple they have the opensource KDE developers that they can work with in order to make Safari safer. I use Camino since it seems to be pretty safe, but there are some trade-offs since Camino doesn't render pages as good as Safari or Firefox does.

Attack Links

I launched both links as well and only got a Google search page that showed some links to other sites with those "b.javascript" highlighted in bold. I click on some sites and they're just somones websites. On the right hand of the search results it shows the safe search shield (green shield+check mark) maybe Google filters the sites. I even tried nihao.com but all I get from Google search results are people's profiles in China and other sites like Xanaga. Typed it on the address bar on Camino and it says it cannot disaplay website. Its either blocking by my ISP (Telus) or its not there anymore.
