Removing whole floors of tie-wearing meatbags.
Removing whole floors of tie-wearing meatbags. And replacing them with some racks. Now that caught my eye.
The more I think about it, the more attractive this idea becomes.

Actually it was the other way round:
The SR-71 came first for the CIA, and when the Air Force guys found out [1] they got the A-12, which was armed with AA[2] instead of cameras.
SR "Strategic Reconaissance"
A "Attack" - should have been an F. otoh the F-117 got an F when it was at least an A, if not a B...
[1] must have been something like: "Whats that sleek, black thingie which leaks on my apron and why can´t I get close to its hangar anymore?"
[2] iirc the genie, nuclear AA.
´bout time someone copied IBM.
I mean, it´s not like the DS8k is exeptionally fast anyway [1]... But this whole Symmetrix thingie looks like a combination of a DS8k and a SVC.
[1] otoh, its also not exceptionally expensive, and I´d choose a good midrange array in my datacenter anytime above an enterprise arry in catalogue.
...as the p570 scales waaay beyond a T5440 (like 3/4 TB ram, 64 cores and more than 100 PCI slots).
otoh, you cant pick on price against the more appropriate p550.
Oh well, let them flame each other for all that I care, its not like IBM was especially nice to SUN within the last years.

If I get this right (from the graphs) a "single" 4870X2 for ~370quid will be consistently faster than a single 285 retailing for 350, but gets eaten by a dual 280 oder 285, which cost 600 to 700 quid, correct?
sooo.... wheres the big deal in a 285?
flames, since it is what I´ll earn for my post.
Launching the nuke-tipped ICBMs within several dozen of missles of same size and flight characteristics should do the trick.
This will be rather expensive since the decoys will have to stay with the nukes until the MIRV deploy, so you actually need quite a few additional ICBM minus their warheads.
otoh, when you bother hurling several hundred Nukes at your opponent, you might as well field your own airborne lasers which start picking off the other guys ABL. And while the ABL are busy killing each other the ICBM proceed.
Enter scene: second strike capability. Welcome back, cold war.
But for the occassional "rouge state" (that would be India and China, or did the Pakistani finally field a _working_ long-range-missle?) decoy missles should do.
googles, and always remember: duck and cover (when you see a nuke flash on the horizon).
...since SWMBO will actually let you have it in first place, unlike most other "oh, you bought *another* computer" notebooks around. A mere two hundred pounds is a moderate surcharge for this.
One might even be allowed to place it on the living room table...

As I got it the c7000 actually has 12 PSU in 6 modules. This would fit to my experience with the c3000, which can accomodate half as many blades and has six 1200W PSU.
Concerning the license price: usually you would buy a license package called ICE which also includes (copypaste)
* HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) with the HP BladeSystem Integrated Manager (BSIM).
* HP iLO 2 Select Pack licenses
* HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack (RDP)
* HP ProLiant Essentials Insight Power Management Pack (IPM)
* HP ProLiant Essentials Virtual Machine Management Pack (VMM)
* HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack (PMP)
* HP ProLiant Essentials Vulnerability and Patch Management Pack (VPM)
which come at a HUGE discount. IIRC we paid about 1400Euro more for a c3000 with 8 ICE licenses than for one without. Considering a single ilo2license comes a 170Euro, this was quite a deal ;)
