3G at 2G frequencies edges closer in UK

3G over 2G

So what does that mean for us? Will existing 2G masts will be able do this 3G over 2G stuff or are massive rollouts of upgrades (taking years) going to be needed?

And what about our phones?

Yes! Finally!

I've got a whole heap of stuff that I can't be arsed to put up there the traditional way. Being able to take a quick snap and post directly from the phone is going to be a God send!

Mobile phone users have fewer brain tumours

I'm far more worried about...

... My family jewels than my brain! My phone sits in my pocket for most of the day, polling for email and other such things that a connected phone does these days. Maybe they should start researching fertility rates among phone users instead.

Decisions, decisions

As someone who's on the verge of jumping the T-Mobile ship in favour of Three's superior 3G coverage do I hang on till "later this year", which could well be December, or do I bail now and come back when the roaming is fully operational?

"combined hydronic heating system"

So it's a bog-standard combi boiler then. Brilliant.

Running Costs

You didn't seem to take power consumption into account when calculating the running costs. Your own figures show the Xerox uses 50W in standby whereas the HP uses a much more svelte 11W. I'd like to see the difference in cost if both machines were left on standby for a day or even a week.

And that's without mentioning the consumption when running - ranging from 253W to 480W. Depending on how much you print, that could really add up.

Nice review, but

Please review the Desire! I imagine that's what most people here would opt for out of the two (beefier CPU and higher res screen), and I want to know if my pre-order is going to be worth the money!

Jobcentre ejects Jedi Knight

Mike Watt
FAIL

His argument is flawed

Jedis often remove their hoods in the films, so if he was a "true jedi" he would have no qualms with removing his. What a tool.

Windows Phone 7: free tools, captive Marketplace

No Sideloading?

Sod that then. I did like the look of this platform, especially the Xbox Live integration, but if the store is as heavily policed as Apple's then they can forget it. I'm moving from WinMo to Android next month (already ordered my Desire) and it looks like I'll be staying there for some time.

Not as bad as it sounds

Surely this will open up the chance for the energy companies to offer cheaper tariffs to those that agree to be restricted to a certain maximum load level. If people want to run more stuff, they can switch to energy saving bulbs, etc.

So if we're already registered for these emails, are we still entered for the draw?

Not enough

Judging by the amount of people I still see doing this on a daily basis, 115,000 isn't enough.

Don't forget the TV ads they've been running to show off their business apps.

Simple Solution

"A BT spokeswoman said the new cabinets had to be larger because they needed powered electronics to convert the light signals transmitted over fibre optics to electrical signals to be transmitted to and from homes, over copper."

So just replace the copper to the home with fibre, too. Screw 40Mb/s, let's all get 100Mb/s and up!

HP servers still half-cold to Ubuntu

Wish they would

I wish they would support it. Ubuntu is so much easier to setup and manage than any other distro and it's the only one I can get to work properly with Active Directory. HP's official support is the only stopping us from making it our distro of choice right now. :(

US trying to police the world again

"The decision follows protests from civil rights campaigners in the US who have been demanding titles like RapePlay be made illegal in Japan. "

As strange as these games are, they don't hurt anyone, so what right do US citizens (or the US in general) have to demand change in any country that has no effect on them? Attempting to force morals on other countries is how wars start.

My Mobiler

I was going to sing the virtues of My Mobiler but I see someone's already done it. It's a great little app that's incredibly handy for banging out texts and such on a fullsize keyboard. Highly recommended.

Third-gen Apple iPhone in development?

Mike Watt
Jobs Horns

Well, duh!

Of course they're making a new model, just like they are always making new versions of the iPod. Only this one will have MMS out of the box, and maybe even copy/paste. Something that could easily be added to the older gen phones through a firmware update, but it won't, because then you wouldn't have to buy a new phone!

BT cuts 0870 charges

Mike Watt

Awesome, but...

... Will the owners of said numbers still get a cut of the calling charge? Whether I'm directly paying for it or not I still don't want a company getting paid when I want to complain, need a problem fixed, etc etc.

The lights

For all those moaning about the lights being wrong, didn't KITT have a set of vertical lights inside the car that fluctuated when he talked? Maybe that's what these ones do.
