Sony scientists develop sugar-fuelled power pack

Sugar

Can you eat the sugar afterwards?

That would be genius, never again would you go to an office or someone else's house and have Tea or Coffee only to be told there was no sugar. You'd have your own supply with you all the time!

You'd have to trade off though, have sugar in your coffee or lose 20mins of battery life for the tube ride home!

Time for all our countries to take the lead.....

Gordon Brown should get in touch with Iran we could be their wing men for a multilateral operation American Freedom.

If we follow Americas lead we don't need a UN mandate, we dont need to follow the Geneva convention and we can basically do what we like.

Their troops can't fight for shit, and there all in Iraq anyway. We could free their country from the tyrant dictator Bush, liberate their people and bring true democracy to a country blighted by corruption.

Sound familiar??

T-Mobile, Orange and O2 land Europe iPhone deal

Chris Morrison

O2 and 3G

I think O2 will be the ones to have the iPhone in the UK.

Thy have by far the poorest and costliest 3G service and I would guess their 3G sales are way below the other operators.

That gives them three options as I see it,

1. Ditch the iPhone, lower rates for 3G (at least offer some data packages) and really focus on selling these 3G models and try and recoup some of the investment they have already made.

2. Continue to all but ignore 3G and take the iPhone. Get shafted for 10% of all your takings by Apple and have every other phone provider demand 10% of your revenues (on their phones) too. £4 billion wasted and they wont make much on the iPhone as UK users want 3G.

3. Try and do both, take the iPhone and give apple 10% of sales but also really focus on 3G. Folk will come to O2 because it has the iPhone and it can shaft over Apple by trying it's hardest to sell an alternative model to the iPhone with 3G when someone goes into an O2 store. Give Apple their 10% for folk on iPhone contracts whilst making a fortune off all the guys your getting on 3G contracts. ....i'd be feigning some lack of availabilty of the iPhone or cost it through the roof whilst discounting all my 3G contracts.

NASA: no fix needed for shuttle

Chris Morrison

Repair

Did they not perform a repair on the shuttle before last?

I'm sure there was a space walk and they tested the repair kit by filling in a small hole (that wasn't going to cause a problem) and then sanded it down so it was flush.

Chris

Chris Morrison

Heads will roll

They better pray there aint a cock up here. What would the problem have been with a couple of hour space walk to go fix the hole. I would love to have heard Nasa's conversation when they told the crew.

"Hi guys it's gonna cost us an extra day and a million pounds to fix that hole in the shuttle. We don't really want to spend that so lets just pray you make it home safely."

If this doesn't end well (which I hope it does) then the whole of Nasa should be mothballed and a new organisation created (possibly a private partnership) to develop space.

@Matthew

Have you ever been to Cuba?

Yes it has healthcare and education but it's also got severe poverty and hunger. It isn't some idylic paradise and is very much a third world country. Lots of people say it's the only country where communism 'almost' worked. The important bit in that sentence is the 'almost'.

I may just spend the afternoon creating cartoons with UML!

Great article.

I quite regularly use state transition diagrams but I've been wondering, since I was taught UML in Uni, what on earth the Use case diagram was for! And what the Activity diagram or class diagram brought to the party that you didnt know already.

The real problem with UML though is that you draw it at the start look at it and never bother to update it as the spec changes throughout a project. About half way through the proejct you look at the UML diagram to see where to go next and you realise that your code looks nothing like the states you have put in your state transition diagram!

Apple 'retires' AppleWorks

Chris Morrison

Ahh the memories

I remember using Claris works in school. There was always a fight over the coloured macs instead of the old black and white mac classics so that you could open the drawing program and draw a big circle and colour it a really funky orangey blue colour (the colour kinda moved form orange to blue the closer to the center you got). That was really cool when I was about 12!

MS cuts Xbox 360 prices Down Under

Chris Morrison

Agree with first post

Having played all three of the latest consoles I have to say the Wii is by far the best. I have a PC if i want to play some serious games (where i'm going to need bout a thousand keys) and after trying the three consoles went for a Wii because it is so much more fun to play, games are different from the usual PC/Xbox/PS dirge and the console has got lots of possibilities for new innovation in the future.

If the Xbox had been half the price of the Wii I would still have bought the Wii. It's all about the interaction with the console. I would say the controls make the Wii games feel much more real than the more realistic graphics on the other consoles.

Lots of questions

The foam is freezing cold making it very hard (like Ice) the tiles are very soft (u could push your finger nail into them)

Where would you put the fuel tank other than on the back?

They don't photo it from the ground they get out a big stick from the back of the shuttle (and soon from the space station) and stick a wee digi camera on the end of it and take lots of photos!

All these bloody enviro MENTALISTS

Great article,

Yawn I'm so tired of all these hippies trying to influence us into having our crap cars, having to clutter our kitchens with 50 bins for every different type of shite you want to throw out, having to pay an extra couple of quid at Kwick Fit to have your tyres "environmentally disposed", pay an extra fiver to have your carbon neutral electricity and gas, plant a forrest every time you want to hop in a plane, and sit and protest at every bloody street corner about how we're all going to die. And now they want me to sit and freeze in the beer garden whilst I eat my dinner and sip a few pints. If folk want to do their bit that's fine, but please do it quietly without trying to force all the rest of us to follow your fad (you could read fud here if you rather). These mentalists are having far to much influence on what we can do and then they treat you like dirt if you dare to stand against them.

Anyone fancy joining me in some ceremonial Tire burning!!?

Theres no 3G on the iPhone. The GPRS is so slow and the wifi so buggy that hackers are bound to just get bored and go play with something else. I mean if they want your bank details it's gonna take them about half an hour to get the phone to dial up!

Nice move Mr Jobs, now I see your thinking in releasing a phone with last generation networking.

P2P pinball lawyers say ignorance is no defence

Chris Morrison

Unsecured wireless network now illegal!?

It's amazing that the lawyers have the brass neck to say you are responsible for everyone who uses your wireless connection. Driving around Glasgow I find several unsecured wireless networks on just about every street.

Even the secured networks are not really secure. Any net sniffer tool or a good educated guess will turn up the default gateway for a secured network. Go to the configuration page for the router and it will either not ask you for a password or will tell you the exact name and model of the router. The default password is almost always used and that can be found by a quick google search. Once your in there the private key is almost always not encoded and can be simply copied and pasted to connect to that network.

I connected to my fiances belkin hub in under 2 minutes.

If your going to get taken to court for getting hacked then the router manufacturers need to do much more to making your wireless network more secure.

Down with the lawyers!

Chris
