Ares 1-X booster rocket dented in test flight

beast666
FAIL

must be an EPIC FAIL

I have to agree with various ACs about the seperation 'anomaly'

The whole 'ting bent in two at booster burnout and 'lo and behold, seconds after all video coverage was lost... I had a friend watching this and he commented... ahhh, we are now seeing pre-recorded footage... They even had to go thru the sick-making ceremony of awarding plaques etc afterwards.

EPIC FAIL I tells ya

Ares I: What's the point?

beast666

What a waste....

It's less capable than the shuttle, and it has serious pogo problems! Upgrade the shuttle ffs, or am I wrong about this???

And your gf will be very impressed!

What did you do on Emergency Services day?

The dibble

I've had to phone the police on several occasions due to idiots riding their mini-bikes, sometimes half a dozen of them along the pavements where I live with mums with prams, toddlers etc... Not an emergency, although alarming! Won't phone 999 (or 112 whatever) cos you get in deep shit, so tried to phone the local cop-shop after googling for number. Guess what? Its not open at weekends or after 5pm! I gave up, and the scrotes get away scot free...

Thought about ringing Crimestoppers, but whats that number? I was only trying to help out... you should be able to ring 999 for any shit and not expect a visit by the dibble why you rang,,, /rant

Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah set for top two spots in Christmas Day charts

beast666

Hallelujah

Whoops, I posted something similar to the WoW article, but maybe this is the best place for it...

Hallelujah by The Happy Mondays c. 1989 is the definitive version... yes, not the same song, but it is much better, don't you know...

@ Sarah Bee.. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, we're here to pull yer...

Did a *bit* of research

And found that the Andy Buckley version is rubbish...

I still maintain the Happy Mondays version is the one you want to hear with Grandma on Xmas day.

Never mind this WoW nonsense, have you heard the shite about Hallelujah the song in the charts at the mo? What bollox... The Happy Mondays did the definitive version in 1989...

If anyone has problems with throttling and/or download caps, why not change the Sky's Max package? No limits, no throttling, no Phorm.

It may of course change in the future, if so I'll drop them like a hot potato(e). Given a plausible alternative...

In the meantime I can download your fav movies (in HD) in half the time in takes to watch them...

@Nigel Wright

Hmmm, try your size 10 squashing a swarm of hundreds of 2-4 mm sized ants... You kill hundreds, but the rest will cling to your Docs and then proceed to swarm up your legs and give you that ole 'ants in your pants feeling.' Not nice!

I suggest leaving such beasties well alone until you can get your hands on some very non-PC chemicals.

You'll thank me for this advice one day...

beast666

... and rats

Bloody pests... In Hawaii (and prolly elsewhere) thats why you need them metal bands around palm trees to stop them climbing the trunks and nesting in the trees and gnawing thru coconuts, palm fuits etc and bombarding those below...

beast666
Alert

Ants...

I don't like creepy crawlies so I find this all very alarming. I must say though that having spent some time in Hawaii (Which has no indigenous poisonous animals or plants) that many types of ants however have made their way to the islands from shipping etc and are a menace... You get some types that are very tiny but swarm in their thousands out of the tiniest gaps in your hotel, or you get big MFing dudes with huge jaws that climb around your room slowly but, menacingly. Hawaii has very strict rules regarding importing foreign species in foodstuffs, luggage etc and I think we should follow them here... Still, won't work tho, but you gotta try!

Unless you have the Sky Max ADSL2+ package, which really is unlimited (and only £10 a month if you have Sky TV.)

I can download HD torrents usually at 1.75MB/s which gives a 'reasonable' download time even for 25GB films. The future is here (and its free!)

The Hadron Collider: What's it all about, then?

beast666

@Neil Stansbury

You are so wrong on so many levels... The Higgs mechanism may seem convoluted, but its the simplest theory thats fits observations 'so far!' That's the whole point of the LHC to settle this, one way or another...

beast666

@Watashi

Sheesh,

Except that the experiment may shed light on the fact that gravity *isn't* "...a deterministic force acting between lumps of matter."

If that doesn't "...reveal the mysteries of the universe,..." then I don't know what will...

Even a completely null result from the LHC will tell us loads...

beast666

Accelerator vs. Collider

The LHC is not strictly an accelerator such as SLAC, its a collider (The hints in the name LHC!)

Nor is it an atom-smasher (even when they get around to colliding heavy ions instead of protons.)

And the other thing...

Wtf is going on with that black bit of bin-liner hanging on by a tiny thread?!? If it was shrink-wrapped at the depot that would have fell off many ages ago! Ergo, it was blasted, after blackbag wrappage with Tracy's hair dryer in-situ.

I rest my case.

El Reg should own-up now! I have my suspicions...

beast666

FAKE!

Shurely the pic is a fake, look at the pallet construction carefully... also (I may be wrong) you don't load a pallet on a fork lift like that. Note also the black bin-bag 'shrink wrap' that was prolly done with the secs hairdryer and the carefully off center tape that reveals the money-shot. And, as has been mentioned, no bottom sheet on the pallet.

Woman finds Lithuanian living in shed

beast666

A lesson to us all...

Whilst I can completely understand the worry this must have caused to the lady mentioned, even she recognises that the bloke was 'a nice guy' and that she would have taken him on - a bit of extra income for renting the shed, free gardening, free security guard. Hats off to this bloke for just trying to get by, without becoming a criminal!

I for one, welcome our gardening Lithuanian overloads...
