OK, so now they are taking Byrne seriously. But you can't really blame el Reg for their initial skepticism as it did sound like a nut-job conspiracy theory at the time.

A lot of these comments are exactly like what happened in the 90s with Sun's on-again, off-again support fro Solaris x86. I've tried it and ripped it out and Sun can stick this up their clacker.
Not bad for second class BSD or Linux server and a fifth class desktop. But I'm damned if I'm trying to help Sun anymore on my time after my previous experiences.
As a junior sys admin in the 90s I'm never touching anything from Sun that's tagged as free or open again and will be sticking to BSD and Linux. Solaris is a good OS but when Sun starts to expand into the open source world it's only a strip tease that stops at the first button.
Yes, still bitter after all these year.
